The result of the move request was: moved to Tony Jackson (pianist). —Ed (talk • majestic titan) 04:53, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Tony Jackson (jazz musician) → Tony Jackson (New Orleans musician) —
- I have to object to the POV renaming of this article, unless doccumentation can be shown demonstrating Jackson's music was jazz. Can we have the article at a more NPOV title, please? -- Infrogmation (talk) 02:38, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
- Although I don't see a particular problem I am not beholden to the current title. How about Tony Jackson (pianist) or Tony Jackson (New Orleans musician)? (Tony Jackson (musician) is inappropriate as there is also a Tony Jackson (bass player)). Tassedethe (talk) 08:32, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
- Exactly where the line between "not yet jazz" and "actual jazz" is during Jackson's era is a matter of considerable debate in New Orleans music history circles. Labeling him "jazz musician" in the title of the article is firmly and dramatically putting Wikipedia into one camp's viewpoint that is hotly disagreed with by some scholars, and other experts would no doubt react to such an assertion by asking "Prove it!" or "Exactly how are you defining jazz here?". I think such POV pushing, intentional or accidental, is inappropriate for Wikipedia article titles. Of the alternative tiles you suggest, I'll vote for "Tony Jackson (New Orleans musician". Thanks. - "Tony Jackson (pianist)" is perfectly fine by me as well. -- Infrogmation (talk) 18:56, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- Tony Jackson (pianist) is the best option here, since the other one is already at Tony Jackson (bass player). Also I think "pianist" is more compatible with WP:QUALIFIER than "New Orleans musician", since disambiguation qualifiers should be as simple as possible. Jafeluv (talk) 08:43, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- As an "outsider" coming to this discussion from WP:Requested moves, my take upon reading the article and comparing the other article names for people named Tony Jackson is that Tony Jackson (pianist) would be best. --RL0919 (talk) 16:02, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- I'd support the pianist disambig. as well. Someoneanother 16:11, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
