Removed from the article
editThis material contains unreferenced comments by an alumni from 1982. There is a lot here though, so I thought moving it to the talk page was more appropriate than deleting it wholesale. With references, there might be something here worth saving. Feel free to heavily modify the section below as you wish to make it more appropriate for inclusion.
Thomas Jefferson High School was known for being one of the only High Schools in Northern Virginia with a planetarium on campus. Thomas Jefferson also had one of the first computer science classes that taught programming the kernel of which grew to encompass the current TJHSST computer science lab. The school had a first rate automotive shop, electronics shop, library, theater, band hall, and athletic facilities, including tennis courts, baseball diamonds, a practice field, and a stadium field with an encircling track. The school curriculum included physics, biology, chemistry, astronomy, computer science, earth science, foreign languages including Spanish and French, history, geography, electronics shop, automotive shop, homemaking, advanced mathematics, English, thespian arts, symphonic and marching band, and choir (among others). Sock-hops/dances were held in the cafeteria. During the summer the school provided a student driving course.
Annandale HS was Thomas Jefferson HS's arch rival on the gridiron (from TJ's perspective).
While the school was replaced with a magnet school that has won awards that rank it as the best high school in the nation, the tradition of providing a unique educational opportunity was always part of the culture of the school.
