I have removed the statement about the modern currency of 'She’s so contrary that if she drowned they’d have to look upstream for her'. We only have Louis Saffian's word for it and there is no evidence for it on Google or Google books. It is safer to remove it as unsupported. Mzilikazi1939 (talk) 09:45, 8 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Omeganian, I again reversed your change because your reference is purely to a Ukrainian source and does not demonstrate that the story is indeed a variant of "The drowned woman and her husband" as you claim - see WP:WHYCITE. Your addition of the similar pay-off line was not in your original edit which, besides, was inserted out of temporal sequence, which is careless editing.

I have now researched folk variants of the story and referenced them, adding your reference to a Russian translation of a Ukrainian source. The circumstances in various other sources are so different that it would be tedious to relate them all when it is only the humourous pay-off line at the end which unites them all. This is an encyclopaedic article which points people to the relevant texts, not a catalogue of trivia. Mzilikazi1939 (talk) 18:49, 18 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
