Problems with the plot

The law and the education officials in the 1940s-50s (which is probably when the early part of the story is set).

The twins (as they are perceived) are not receiving any education and are 'out of control' (there being an incident with a runaway pram) - and legislation was in place for dealing with such matters.

When Missus dies they are minors under the age of 21, with only 'an old man' to look after them and they are co-owners of the house. Given the perceptions of the time and the situation they would have been made wards of court and 'all sorts of interfering busybodies' would have got involved. Adeline's mental health problems and Emeline's 'moral delinquency' would have been discovered and things would have gone rather differently. 80.254.147.68 (talk) 15:39, 9 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

One thing you seem to have forgotten is that nobody outside the house knew that Charlie – the owner of the house and the girls' guardian – was also dead or even that he had gone missing. Another question is how long can something like that be kept secret, but apparently Charlie had been rather reclusive.

On the other hand, it seems unlikely that the firemen do not find the remains of the real Adeline's body after they have put out the fire. – Simo Kaupinmäki (talk) 18:54, 27 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Teenage Adeline

I can't find a reference to this, but apparently Antonia Clarke also plays the real Adeline as teenager, though she has only been credited as Emmeline. Clarke actually has more screen time as Adeline than as Emmeline. Presumably, the film makers were careful not to include spoilers in the credits. – Simo Kaupinmäki (talk) 19:10, 27 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
