Oxford Book of CarolsThe Oxford Book of Carols – Per WP:NCTHE142.161.81.20 (talk) 22:40, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

This is a contested technical request (permalink). TonyBallioni (talk) 04:31, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Bradv: On what basis do you believe that the definite article is not part of the proper name, given that the definite article has been consistently used by the work itself since its first publication? 142.161.81.20 (talk) 05:51, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Support The definite article is part of the book's title as can be seen from the scan of the cover and it's even in the lede! And ISBN 9780193533158 lists links all of which that contain it as an entry include the definite article. Walter Görlitz (talk) 05:45, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - it does appear that the definitive item is considered part of the title of the book. Bob talk 11:52, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - per nominator's citation of WP:NCTHE - "If the definite or indefinite article would be capitalized in running text, then include it at the beginning of the Wikipedia article name" and Walter Görlitz's evidence that this applies. 79.65.126.84 (talk) 14:34, 20 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - OUP consistently describes its own book with the definite article, and it's on the cover. The The is part of its name, and WP:NCTHE therefore applies here. Cnbrb (talk) 17:23, 20 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
As a footnote, I might add that there are other inconsistently named OUP books which should be changed. Some OUP book articles use the definite article (such as The Oxford History of Western Music), while others do not. Perhaps you might offer your opinions on renaming (The) Oxford Book of English Madrigals and (The) Oxford Book of Tudor Anthems for the same reasons discussed above?
