Change of genus

edit

Recent changes to the article text changed "Philodendron" to "Thaumatophyllum". I've reverted the change for now, because I haven't seen a reliable secondary source (the main plant taxonomic databases don't seem to have changed); the page would need moving; and the taxobox was broken.

@WikiMan2018a: you made the changes, which may be correct, but can you please provide a reliable secondary source? Peter coxhead (talk) 08:01, 31 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Peter coxhead: Hi there...the relevant original research is here: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/324896603_Recognition_of_the_genus_Thaumatophyllum_Schott_-_formerly_Philodendron_subg_Meconostigma_Araceae_-_based_on_molecular_and_morphological_evidence

Sakuragui, Cassia & Calazans, Luana & Loss de Oliveira, Letícia & Barroso de Morais, Érica & Iseppon, Ana & Vasconcelos, Santelmo & Schrago, Carlos & Mayo, Simon. (2018). @WikiMan2018a: thanks. The paper seems convincing to me, but my reading of WP:PSTS leads me to the conclusion that we should not make such changes based only on a single primary source; we ought to wait to see whether any reliable secondary source (i.e. one of the major taxonomic databases) takes up the split. We can (and indeed must) report that Sakuragui et al. have proposed moving Philodendron subg. Meconostigma to the genus Thaumatophyllum, but I'm doubtful that we should follow just yet. Peter coxhead (talk) 13:38, 31 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
I added a note to Philodendron. If and when we do follow the split, that article will need some major revisions; we can't just move one species. Peter coxhead (talk) 13:51, 31 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
I've put a list of all the changes that are involved at Talk:Philodendron#Subgenus split. Please discuss whether or not this change should be accepted there, as it involves changes to several articles. Peter coxhead (talk) 14:26, 31 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Philodendron bipinnatifidum

edit

The species isn't considered Thaumatophyllum anymore and should be classified as Philodendron bipinnatifidum. 194.94.17.66 (talk) 13:04, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

See Talk:Philodendron#Subgenus split. As of October 2024, Plants of the World Online does not accept the split, so uses Philodendron bipinnatifidum. Peter coxhead (talk) 13:11, 18 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
