UCC being largest Terry Fox Run site?
editI took out the part about UCC claiming to have the largest Terry Fox Run and raising the most money; the footnote points back to UCC's own newsletter, which could be considered a breach of NOR.

And I've deleted it again. The link doesn't work and I can find no secondary source to back up that claim. Either way, it's obviously a promotional reference for the school and sounds highly dubious. Dantès (talk) 21:13, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
sponsor
editOn this page it says that he didn't accept cooperate sponsors. In the marathon of hope page, it says "In order to get the Canadian Cancer Society to support him he had to get corporate sponsorship for the run."
- I don't think there's anything wrong with that; The Canadian Cancer Society is devoted initiatives to help treat, prevent, and spread awareness of cancer. It's made up of largely volunteers anyway, which would hardly qualify it as a corporation. -- Seraphchoir 13:14, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
links
editThe department of defence link does not work any more so I have removed it. Tahnok (talk) 06:33, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
How does this work?
editThe article leaves me confused. Usually the deal with "charity run" events is that some corporate sponsor promises money to the charity in proportion to the number of completing participants, in exchange for the brand recognition that results. The article explicitly states that there are no corporate sponsors involved here. Somewhere one the official website I found an assertion that participants are not charged an entry fee. So where do the money actually come from? How does running about cause funds to be raised if the runners pay nothing and there are no sponsors either? Is there a paying audience? –Henning Makholm (talk) 15:03, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
- Run participants solicit donations to the Terry Fox Foundation from friends, family members, co-workers, neighbors etc. before the run. Run participants can also choose to donate to the foundation themselves (in 1980 Terry Fox requested a voluntary $1 entry fee from runners, but that no one be turned away because they lacked an entry fee. Thailand
editI ran in the Terry Fox Run in Bangkok in 1999 or 2000 (I don't remember which). 2002 could not have been the first year... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.112.38.5 (talk) 07:26, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
- You're correct, the first race was held in 1995. Fixed. GregorB (talk) 20:57, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
Reverting edit from 2 October 2013
editIt looks like a large portion of the article was (accidentally?) deleted on 2 October 2013 without an edit summary. What was left was incomplete and didn't make grammatical sense in places. So I manually reverted to the previous version, and then re-added the information and edits that have been added since then. I also went through and reformatted the references, and updated or replaced the references with dead links where I could. --24.142.36.234 (talk) 20:21, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
