Nomination

I'm not sure how else to do this, but I'd like to nominate this page to be one of the main page's featured articles. It is extremely well written, and even taught me a lot about the building downtown with an illustrious history. I was a Terre Haute resident for a year and a half while I attended grad school at Indiana State University and had always driven by it wishing it was still open to share its history with us. puctuation, minor changes

I was cleaning up the punctuation in this article tonight (note the multitude of minor changes). I noticed an inconsistency in the use of italics and quotation marks for Tribune–Star. I'm not going to go back and fix it all now, but I believe that italics are the correct choice. If anyone would like me to touch up any other points, or other house-keeping items, let me know here, and I'll take care of it.

Tone

The tone of the article seems very informal. It almost seems to read more like a narative. I'm not sure exactly what to do about that. It also makes me wonder about NPOV issues, although on a first read through, the article doesn't seem NNPOV. As an aside, thanks to the authors of this article—the Terre Haute House was a very special place and I'm very glad it has its own wikipedia entry.

Recent Edit (2006-04-21)

The last edit worked towards fixing an awkward sentence. However, it left another long sentence in its wake.

• In late 1888, Charles Baur, brother of Jacob Baur, founder of Liquid Carbonics Manufacturing Company which managed the hotel after the second Terre Haute Hotel Company acquired it from the Estate of William Tuell in March 1888, leased the hotel.

First of all, the change from "who" to "which" seems wrong. The old version said that Charles Baur, who managed the hotel, leased in in late 1888. Also, what's with "the second Terre Haute Hotel Company"? It wasn't the second in the original version. I don't know enough about the history to comment there, though. Lastly, it seems that, although Jacob Baur is probably a very important person, as far as the Terre Haute House goes, I'm not sure if he deserves a mention. Without a doubt, he should be removed from this sentence--it's way too long otherwise. I feel like, due to chronology, the March 1888 aquisition should be mentioned first, and then the late 1888 lease by Charles B. mentioned, with reference to his work as a previous hotel manager. Finally, Jacob Baur could be mentioned (perhaps parenthetically). —Vijay 02:45, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Multiple Issues

Not only does this article lack inline citations (as noted for almost five years), but also violates local interest, advertisement, peacock, opinion piece, and personal reflection policies. And notability - it's a torn-down hotel in a medium-sized Midwestern city. Mrgate3 (talk) 22:43, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Recent edits (2022-1214), might be going ahead with somewhat larger-scale edits

As noted above, there are several issues that could be resolved with this article (also as noted in the notice displayed at the top of the article on the Read Page). Otherwise, this article is wonderfully written and a super informative read. :)

My initial changes are all centered on the article's headers. Capitalization of all headers were transformed from standard-case to Title-Case. My most substantial changes include the edit of the first-level header "Suitability for Reclamation" (originally "Could this hotel have been saved?") and the edit of "Salvaging Significant Items" (originally "Salvaging some things, landfilling the balance"). The latter header, along with the header before it, were shifted from first-level to second-level headers under the first-level header "2005 to Present". Also added the second-level header "Proposal for Demolition" directly under the aforementioned first-level header. Hopefully this will clean up the organization a little, as there's a lot of information in this article.

This article is an amazing read. I will be going forward with some larger-scale edits to update outdated information and to change the tone of the article to one that is more encyclopedic; however, I am copying down the body of the original article and saving it locally in a text file (not that we can't view it in the History tab).
