Comment
editCouldn't we move this to telephone company? We had a rule wherein if the British or American term was inexplicable in the other dialect, we would by preference use one that was understandable in both. I suggest that "telco" is less understandable than telephone company. Rmhermen 23:39, Apr 21, 2004 (UTC)
- Is anyone opposed to a move to telephone company? Is "telco" more than slang? Where is it used? Rmhermen 12:39, Jun 19, 2004 (UTC)
Makes sense
editA move to "telephone company" makes sense, although "telco" is very common jargon (in telco circles...)
"Ernestine"
editThis character originated on Laugh-In. The particular mentioned skit may have originated there, too. algocu 15:44, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I remember her well! I'd added the ref to Laugh-In, then saw your comment. Not sure if that specific skit was first on Laugh-In, but certainly many similar digs at Ma Bell. -- Bricaniwi (talk) 04:19, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Add To The List
editI believe that there are a few phone companies that should be added to the list. For example MetroPCS, a phone company based in central and south Florida, northern and south California, Georgia, Michigan, and Texas. Also I believe that AT&T should also be added, a company at which Cingular and Bellsouth combined. I don't want to, and can't do it because I may screw everything up so someone with experience please reply! R3445v (talk) 02:28, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Please remember WP is a global encyclopedia, not an American one. There are hundreds of phone companies around the world. Also little point in having a list that would soon be out of date as companies regularly merge, get split up by anti-competition laws, get privatized or nationalised, and/or voluntarily re-brand themselves! -- Bricaniwi (talk) 04:29, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Merge with Telecommunications Company article
editPer the "mergefrom" tag dated December 2013, "It has been suggested that Telecommunications service provider be merged into this article."
Disagree The FCC ruling of February 26, 2015, reclassified Internet service as telecommunications. This means that a TSP is no longer just the telephone company, since other entities like Cable companies also provide Internet access. The merge proposal has been overcome by events and should be withdrawn. —Molly-in-md (talk) 11:38, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
