Meaning of the word
editI tried hard to find the origin of the term. Please don't believe multiple internet sources which copy from each other the definition of like: "taraf is a Turkish word meaning "group of people". It is not. Yes, it is a Turkish word. It came from Arabic meaning wikt:side, and has approximately the same meanings in Turkish and "side" in English. Among these meanings are some which indeed mean a group of people, but not just a group of people, but a group distingushed being on some side, e.g, "mother's side", "Germans' side in WWII", "supporters of a particular sports team", "a party in a contract", etc. (I added some of these meanings into wikt:taraf). However it is unclear how these meanings were transformed into the Romanian word with very narrow meaning of a musical band.
I will continue search. Logofat de Chichirez (talk) 20:46, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
