Frank Clair Stadium/Lansdowne Park

• The problem with this article is that Lansdowne Park and Frank Clair Stadium are two different things, yet Lansdowne Park redirects here. Further, the article title is not in keeping with any naming convention that I am aware of. Skeezix1000 11:11, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

I agree. Maybe we should have two seperate articles. The Landsdowne Park one could start by simply saying it contains Frank Clair Stadium - we can build it up from there. Re the title of this page I would probably just go with Frank Clair Stadium. I believe that the page has been renamed in the past though. Cjrother 15:14, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

when i was a kid in ottawa in the 1960's, i doubt very many people even knew the stadium had a name. the rough riders were said to play at lansdowne park by fans and media alike.Toyokuni3 (talk) 14:35, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

That is my fault. I did a quick check, and saw that there was already a Frank Clair Stadium article (redirecting to Frank Clair Stadium at Lansdowne Park), but I was obviously mistaken. Concerts

I removed the reference to random musical concerts that have taken place in the stadium over the years. Hundreds and hundreds of concerts have occurred. If we can find a source that indicates the best attended concert at the stadium, or thelist of the top three or four attended concerts at the stadium, then that's something noteworthy that merits mention in the article. Otherwise, it's just a list of what someone thinks is worthy of mention. Skeezix1000 (talk) 16:14, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Northside and Southside

There is frequently a rivalry during sporting events between the two grandstands dubbed the "Northside" and the "Southside". "Northside sucks!" and "Southside sucks!" chants break out during football games regularly. The "Northside" has always been known as the more sophisticated side, while the "Southside" is a much rowdier side.

Well, it could use some re-wording and sourcing but I think the rivalry between Northside and Southside is well-noted. DoubleBlue (Talk) 06:32, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

TD Place

The entire complex, both the former Civic Centre and the former Frank Clair Stadium, now appears to be called TD Place (please correct me if I am wrong). This article on the stadium was, in good faith, temporarily moved to TD Place in an attempt to reflect the correct new name, but has been moved back for now due to the fact that TD Place is both the arena and stadium (not just the stadium). For the time being at least, TD Place is a DAB page.

It seems to me that we have a few options:

1. Continue to have two article named TD Place Stadium and TD Place Arena, even though I think neither officially goes by those names (although we might find in the next few months that those names become the most commonly used ones). The official website seems to refer to the stadium and arena as "the stadium at TD Place" and "the arena at TD Place" respectively, neither of which would make a good article titles.
2. Merge the two articles into one article at TD Place. I question whether such an article would be too long. However, some good copyediting and removal of duplication could result in an article of appropriate size. It appears that the new management will be running these two facilities much more in tandem than was previously the case, so it is possible that one article might be more appropriate now than it would have been years ago.
3. Have a short overview article at TD Place, with the more detailed articles at TD Place Stadium and TD Place Arena. This option seems good, but I am somewhat concerned that it is a recipe for duplication (editors will inevitably add information to TD Place that should be at TD Place Stadium, etc.) which often occurs when there are separate articles on structures within the same complex.

I was involved with this - as in I was at alot of the public meetings. The new name "TD Place" incorporates the stadium and arena but not the grounds. There is no distinction between the stadium and arena now as a complex and this was the intent - source Quote: "If you think of the 40 acres that is there, that will still be referred to as Lansdowne Park," said Greenberg. "One component of Lansdowne Park is the arena and the stadium and that's why we're having one name for the two of them.". That said we do have a problem ..as in the stadium and arena for most of its history are refereed to differently. We also have the problem that they are different structures and server 2 different functions. I see no problem in us having articles 2 articles at all. Would be odd to merger the history of both on one page about a new concept. -- Moxy (talk) 18:05, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

I will probably still be calling the whole thing Lansdowne (no matter what specific element I am refering to) for the rest of my life. Too many years calling it that.

I don't disagree with you, Moxy. There is a lot of repetition between the two articles, mind you, and the arena was built under the bleachers of the stadium so the two buildings do work together (and now, apparently, will be run together). Having said that, there is no rush and we have the luxury of waiting to see how things play out (as Alaney2k suggests above in respect of the names). Skeezix1000 (talk) 18:14, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
