Disagree on "The" in title

I do not agree with the addition of "the" to the front of Superdemension Century Orguss, it is a title of an animated series, not a sentence or a specific thing. Not one release or piece of reference material refers to the show as The Super Dimension Century Orguss but only as Super Dimension Century Orguss. - Superdeformed 21:56, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Titles of animated series (or any project) can have the definite article ("the") in the beginning — see The Lord of the Rings, The Brothers Grimm, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, and The Southern Cross, to name but a few. Among other releases and references, Taki's laser discs, Shogakukan's anime film comics, and Shogakukan's This Is Animation: The Select books all write the title as The Super Dimension Century Orguss. d00d, I picked up episodes 1-12 on VHS from Hollywood video for $3.00... And guess what? THERE IS NO "THE" in the title! (Just like there is no spoon.) Take a look at the title. Fanboy-like Rebuttal

However, you don't hear of movie titles such as Trainspotting, Watership Down, or Citizen Kane called The Trainspotting, The Watership Down, or The Citizen Kane.

The titles you make reference to are of titles translated into English by Japanese and how often are those scrapped for localization?

For all the years I have been into Anime not once have I heard anyone other then you refer to the series as "The Super Dimension Orguss (Or Macross)" until now. I know grammatically it can be presented as either, but, in practiced language and North American releases I never once seen or heard “the” used.

Therefore by virtue of use and even the local license holders, I believe, that proper title to be “Super Dimension” and not “The Super Dimension.” I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything, but, I am going by the Official US titles and what I have heard it being referred to over the last 12 years to my knowledge.

Thanks for the thumbs-up on my website! The key difference between these titles and Trainspotting and the like is that the titles already had "The." That makes them more akin to titles like The Lord of the Rings and The Brothers Grimm. (Incidentally, The Lord of the Rings and The Brothers Grimm are a British novel and an American film, respectively.)

Unfortunately, the North American sources are far from consistent. Manga actually used "Superdimensional Fortress Macross," which is a different rendering all together. AnimEigo used "The" in the actual release--see:

(It was too late to catch the other instances where "The" was left off, but oh well.)

We could use a localized English spelling, but then we have to choose which one: "The Super Dimension," "Super Dimension" or "Superdimensional"? (The first Macross movie's localization adds "Super Spacefortress" to confuse the issue further.) It's more ideal in this case to choose the spelling that is most consistent in Japan, with redirects for the others. That is not always the most ideal choice for all anime, but this case is unique in that the most consistent English title in Japan is actually grammatically correct (even if it doesn't roll off the tongue smoothly). For examples of "The Super Dimension" in Japan, see Taki's laserdiscs, Shogakukan's books, Yamato's toys, Movic's memorabilia, Bandai's laserdiscs, videotapes, DVDs, games ….) Although I feel it does not roll off the tounge properly, I see your point and shame on me for not noticing the title use in the liner notes I've read about three times. This is all tediously trivial anyway, but I guess that's how obsession goes. Thanks. Superdeformed 06:33, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Emaan physiology

I think this article should include a seperate section relating to the unusual physiology of the Emaan people. Explaining their fertility in the middle of Shaiya's profile disrupts the flow of the paragraph, and something as noticable as their tentacles merits mention as well.
