SYSK redirect

edit

Can somebody who knows how make it so that this page redirects from SYSK? It is commonly referred to that on the podcast Thatguy1994 (talk) 15:12, 29 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

In February of 2013, the logo was updated. The logo currently on the article is no longer used and should be updated. Jumpythehat (talk) 20:41, 27 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

References 2 &3 need to be corrected

edit

These sources both 404. The sites used in sources number 11 and 13 will probably suffice. Can someone who knows how to edit properly do this?

Microlending section

edit

"Starting in 2009, after doing an episode on how microlending, the show began encouraging listeners to donate to the online microlending site Kiva.[4] A Stuff You Should Know team had raised $150,000 by the middle of 2010,[4] and more than $2.75 million by November 2015.[11] In 2009 they challenged Stephen Colbert to see whose team could raise $100,000 first[12] and they "beat the pants off off" him, reaching that goal in three months.[13]

The lending team is now run by fan volunteers,[4] has since consistently ranked among the top five teams in terms of both donations and users. As of November 2015 the team ranked #7 for new users among new Kiva users, and in the "Friends" category of teams, ranked #2 for new users and amount loaned.[11]"

It isn't 2015 yet.

Josh's first marriage

edit

A few years ago I got reliable in-person intel that Josh left his first wife for Umi, but this info doesn't seem to exist anywhere online. If anybody had a source that'd be awesome. Aetataureate (talk) 02:07, 20 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I don’t know if he left his first wife for Umi, but Josh was married first to a woman named Ashley. She (and her father) were originally mentioned on some early episodes of SYSK, but any references to them have since been removed. - SYSK Minister of Stats and Admin for SYSK Army FB group Jhurley85 (talk) 17:47, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Categories

edit

I don't understand what counts as a Category:Talk podcasts. Does this podcast count? I mean, they talk. Otherwise, are there other categories that are relevant that haven't been added yet? TipsyElephant (talk) 17:42, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Axolotls

edit

I think you should do an episode on axolotls because they’re almost extinct and they’re very interesting. 2600:1005:B0BA:C75A:4917:2A10:95A2:65A2 (talk) 18:37, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Podcast ownership

edit

Can someone in the know (and with sources) add some info about the various ownership of this Podcast? I think it was independent for a while, then bought by Discovery Channel, then sold and then sold again. Currently (2023) they are under the Clear Channel Umbrella, now commonly known as IHeartRadio. Creating an article page for Josh... and Chuck?

edit

I just started making updates to this page. (I was planning just to update awards and rankings, but I noticed the challenges flagged on the page that I'll take the time to fix.) One thing I immediately noticed is that neither host/producer has their own entry. At minimum, Josh should -- as founder and host, he clearly meets the notability guidelines as a creative professional for this work. (It's consistent popularity over 15 years, its coverage in the press, its industry awards etc all validate him). Any opinions on whether Chuck also should be considered for his own entry. Thoughts? Podcast Lover (talk) 16:13, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

They each had articles in the past, but they failed GNG at the time. If you can find more coverage now, I would be all in favor. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Josh Clark (host) and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chuck Bryant (2nd nomination). -- Slugger O'Toole (talk) 18:39, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Interesting. Thank you so much for bringing that to my attention! I was not yet an editor in 2015 and I wonder if they had then created the specific guidelines for creative professionals, which now exist and are so useful. Those guidelines are explicit that you have to prove notability of the WORK, not the PERSON
I think SYSK would qualify under 2 of the 4 interchangeable criteria:
The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the primary subject of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews, or of an independent and notable work (for example, a book, film, or television series, but usually not a single episode of a television series); or
The person's work (or works) has: (a) become a significant monument, (b) been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) won significant critical attention, or (d) been represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums.
I will go in search of what's needed to back this up. But I believe 15 years running in the Apple Top 10 Podcasts + multiple critic's awards + press should qualify them under both of these. Podcast Lover (talk) 16:08, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I would be in favor of separate pages. If that’s not possible, then significant subsections of this page, which needs a major overhaul. -Official Minister of Stats for SYSK since 2014 Jhurley85 (talk) 15:27, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Jhurley85 Happy to meet you as the Official Minister of Stats for SYSK! I've started working on the draft of Josh's page (still in early stages) and am very happy to move through this article as well to overhaul it. I'll be grateful to have your help and to get your eyes on things. I'm not a SYSK expert, but I know and respect what they've accomplished with this show. Podcast Lover (talk) 17:07, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Podcast Lover Nice to meet you too! I posted in the SYSK Army group today about this page needing an overhaul, so there may be others helping us. I’ll do what I can. Just contact me if you need info or assistance. Jhurley85 (talk) 22:02, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
