Relevance to mathematics

edit

I can't find any google hits that links "stairstep interpolation" to mathematics. It seems to be purely a procedure used in image resampling. If the relevance to mathematics can't be properly referenced, the lead has to be rephrased and only mention the application in image resampling. --Berland (talk) 21:21, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

As far as I can see, it is not an interpolation method in the mathematical sense. For instance, given f(x) for x = 0, 1, 2, … 5, how would you compute f(π)? Thus I removed all references to mathematics. -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 21:21, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
