When I was an MIT student, the downstream/"East" sidewalk of the bridge was measured in "Phillips". I was told they had been added by another fraternity (SAE?), using their shortest pledge, Phillips. They stopped being renewed decades ago, and the last vestiges of paint in pores were removed with the bridge's restoration.
