editSomeone wrote in the preface that "Simeon continued his father's policies of supporting the Golden Horde and acting as its leading enforcer in Russia", which is blatantly wrong and based on complete ignorance; no medievalist would ever make such a claim. I have cleaned this up. It would be more correct to say that Simeon and his father, Ivan I, both of whom lacked the possibility to overthrow the Horde or even compete with it on an equal footing, had to be loyal and used this loyalty for their own political interests, i.e., to protect their territorial possessions from raids and looting by the Horde, "to retain and strengthen the grand princely office" (Robert O. Crummey, The Formation of Muscovy, 1304-1613, Routledge, 2013, p. 41), and to increase their power over the rivaling principalities and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
