Notable?

edit

Is she notable? Sounds like your average 26-year-old with a website and a vision. --Habap 21:01, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Her work itself probably isn't notable, but she seems to be. She's a figure who speaks at environmental conferences around the world, has addressed the United Nations, written an article for Time magazine, and a google test yields 777 hits, which I think is often sufficient for minor notability. She may be known to a certain degree in Canada from her television appearances there. --Nectarflowed T 21:18, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Perhaps including a paragraph on her early activism, which I saw hits for, would be useful. Otherwise, we're starting her activism only a couple of years ago. I think if there are things about her activities in the 1990s and a fuller explanation of the television appearances, it might be more likely to dodge a VfD. --Habap 21:33, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Besides being David Suzuki's daughter, she's notable as a symbol of youth participation in environmentalism. I was surprised to see her featured in new (2006) English language textbooks for Japanese junior high school students. They have one of her speeches, on behalf of the Environmental Children's Organization (ECO) from 1992. (The textbook series is called Sunshine; publisher: Kairyudo)--DonaldoKun 06:58, 31 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Skyfish Project?

edit

The link to the Skyfish project, points to an external web site.

2 things:
1. Shouldn't links in the actual article point to other Wiki Articles, not external sites? Shouldn't it be in the "External Links" Section?
2. It appears that the domain it points to, expired almost a month ago (today is 29-April and expired 3-April). Currently there is just place holder there.

Skyfish Project Status

edit

The status of her "internet thinktank" is unclear. The domain was deactivated in April 2007, but is now active again, hosting Google AdSense links delivered via their Domain Parking Ads program. Moreover, the domain is now in Jeff Tobham's name, Cullis-Suzuki's partner. But their status as a couple is also in doubt. Tobham drives traffic to skyfishproject.org from one of his sites, promising visitors "a good time", not consistent with the serious nature of the original website.

Since it might be that Cullis-Suzuki has lost control of, and possibly interest in, the Skyfish Project, I would suggest either updating the entry with this new information, or removing references to the Skyfish Project altogether.

My analysis of the status of the site is here for your review. [1] Steve Janke (talk) 15:38, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've edited the text of the article to include this new information. Given the amount of doubt in the status of The Skyfish Project, the correct approach might be to remove all mention of it, but that seems to be a radical step to take. I've also reworked the links to avoid going to defunct or off-topic pages. For instance, the link to Topham's website no longer goes to "Sev's Seven Minutes". The content of the linked page has been changed with no mention of Cullis-Suzuki (suggesting that the relationship between Cullis-Suzuki and Topham has ended). Skyfish Project Status update

edit

The last update of the site, before some domain grabber got hold of it, is the 20th of May 2004, according to archive.org: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.skyfishproject.org/

Which also supports that impression is the schedule of Cullis-Suzukis talks, with the last entry in June 2004: http://web.archive.org/web/20060908154450/www.skyfishproject.org/skySevBio.html

Besides the facts, there is a comment by jj/Jeff at http://www.bloggingcanadians.ca/ConservativeBlogs/Just-what-is-up-with-Skyfish-Project/ that says, that the project got disbanded in 2004, when Cullis-Suzuki went to pursue a masters degree. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Schlauberg (talkcontribs) 19:32, 5 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Skyfish Project ended its run back in 2004. Severn turned her focus back to school to pursue a master's degree. The Skyfish domain was dismantled. Neither of us had the time or desire to be concerned about making money off of it. Ownership expired and was obviously re-registered by an enterprising person. Neither Severn or I receive any profits from the ads. We both continue to work on projects and live lives that we hope inspire people to think about their actions and the world around them. Hope that clears up any confusion. (Jeff T.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jjtopham (talkcontribs) 01:54, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove this article from Wiki. She is an amazing young woman, and the information in the article is very interesting. The You-Tube item on her speech to the Earth Summit in '92 needs to be seen by anyone considering deleting the article from Wiki. Mesmermd (talk) 15:17, 23 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
