Scanner
editHey, The edit to this def. is out of touch with acronyms currently used in vehicle diagnostics. An ECU might be called an ECM but my experience, selling scanners, has never been an acronym called a TCU. TCM for Trannsmission Control Modules is common. Upper Control Modules, Door Modules, Seat Control Modules are real Modules not Units. Climate Control Modules, Yes. I have never heard of a PCM mentioned in any scan tool literature. As for the definition, as modified, is not accurate. An automotive electronic control unit diagnostic tool. A scanner not only diagnoses the the faults in system modules it also access's all the sensors input to the modules found on the system. So.......... Maybe: A vehicle diagnostic tool. The original def.: Scanner (automotive), Generic reference to a wide variety of electronic diagnostic tool's used to read values stored in vehicle computer modules. Is defendably correct. - If you are primarily interested in stating a definition, then the proper place for that is scanner in Wiktionary. The purpose of a disambiguation page is not to provide a comprehensive definition, but to give readers enough of a hint to help find the precise article they are looking for by providing an internal link. If there isn't an existing article that closely relates to the topic, I suggest removing the item from here and placing it in Wiktionary. ✤ JonHarder talk 18:34, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
