Whether to split? merge? or do nothing?
editUser:Utcursch in July 2018 suggested spliting the article into two as Sarayu river (Vedic literature) and Sarayu river, Uttar Pradesh. While User:2402:8100:202b:745a::a68:3e3f, recently, suggested merging the article with Sarju. Can you both please explain/discuss why you think it should be split/merged so we can reach any consensus? Lightbluerain❄ (Talk | contribs) 16:54, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
- In my opinion, it should neither be merged nor be splitbut be improved here only. I think the subject itself is quite notable. Lightbluerain❄ (Talk | contribs) 17:00, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
- At that time, there was some information about the Vedic river -- it has since been removed (I'm not sure by whom or for what reason). That said, the entries in the "In fiction" section don't belong here; maybe turn this into a disambig page (or create another one at Sarayu (disambiguation)). utcursch | talk 17:24, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
- Utcursch, Not sure about the Vedas, but this river is mentioned in Ramayana. Whoever removed this, edited this wrongly. And, I would choose creating a separate disambiguation page. Thanks for your inputs. Lightbluerain❄ (Talk | contribs) 17:56, 10 January 2021 (UTC)

BhagyaMani, I appreciate your efforts in improving the article, but why did you remove the part describing its mention in Ramayana? For me that's perhaps the only thing that makes the subject notable. Lightbluerain❄ (Talk | contribs) 18:02, 10 January 2021 (UTC) Hey, Lightbluerain: When I followed the flow of the river described in the lede, it became apparent that this is a different river than the one in Ramayana. Therefore, I concur with User:Utcursch to split into 2 pages : one about the river in literature, and the other about the one in UP. There may even be more rivers with that name or similar spelling. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 18:22, 10 January 2021 (UTC)
- BhagyaMani, There is only one river in Ayodhya and that is Sarayu river only. This very river is described in Ramayana. I confirmed this from a friend of mine as well who has spent some years in Ayodhya. May be the lead doesn't describe it well. I'll try to improve it to the extent I can. - See Ghaghara : that is the river flowing past Ayodhya. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 15:02, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- BhagyaMani, Yes. This only is said in the link I used above. Ghaghra is called Sarayu in Ayodhya. (I find the information in the hindi articles for Sarayu and Sarju more reliable here) This Sarayu river is more notable than Ghaghra. North Indians talk only about Sarayu in Ayodhya and not Ghaghra (except those who know about the river). It is revered as the death place of Shri Rama. - BhagyaMani, please respond. Lightbluerain❄ (Talk | contribs) 13:09, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- What is your question? I already wrote that I think it appropriate to create a new new page for the Sarayu in Ramayana, but NOT combine content on the mythical and the real river river in ONE page. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 13:46, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
