Location and ethnic groups
edit1- Salmas is spelled سلماس in persian. and سالماس is Azeri pronounciation for the same term.
2- the term "kurdish region of iran" is disputed, while salmas is located in west AZERBAIJAN province.
3- population of salmas is composed of both azeris and kurd, but kurds are in rural area and azeris are dominant in the city.
4- the etymon of the city is not cited --Dr.Hamed 19:10, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
5- The people of Salmas refers to the 1918 riots as Jiloluk, which during those riots Assyrian militants hurt Salmas people after murdering of Shimon by Simitko in Kohne-Shahar village in northern part of Salmas. So, this last statement is not fair: "Part of the Assyrian Genocide took place in Salmas and the surrounding region at the hands of the Ottoman Army and loyal Kurdish irregulars. This followed initially successful Assyrian military campaigns against the Ottomans and their Kurdish and Azeri allies." without any reference. That time thounsands of Azeri civilans had been killed which they are not involved in any sides, nor Othmans (and Kurds) nor Russians (Assyrians and Armanians.
6- Salmas was and is an Iranian region, but in 1918 every powers invade it, Assyrians and specially Shimon are not belong to Iran or Azerbaijani Province of its.
Citing sources
editThe web page http://in2reach.com/cgi-bin/readzip.cgi?main_page.html was given for a citation for the 1918 murder of Patriarch Shimon by the Kurdish leader Simko. That citation was added 14:35, 30 July 2006, by Shahram12. Unfortunately, all that was provided was the url. No date, title, author or responsibility statement was provided. At this time, June 2009, that web address is only a place holding search site with no mention of these events, and the Internet Archive did not preserve a copy of the earlier page. I have replaced the citation with three others, one of which cites to a brief entry directly page-linked into Google Books. When providing citations, please provide as complete a citation as possible, see Wikipedia:Citing sources. If citing a URL, check to see if an archive of that page exists, if not, requesting that an archive be made, may preserve the information if the original web page becomes unavailable. --Bejnar (talk) 04:12, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Orign
editAbout the claimed azeri orign of the city in X century, is very strange that can be azeri (then turkman) a century before of the turanian emigration. In fact before was a well know armenian district. The iranian population come only in the XX century and the persian political power is relativy modern.--88.16.136.91 (talk) 10:44, 15 July 2011 (UTC).
- I checked it and Mukaddasi claim en X century that is a kurd village (never azeri of course). --88.16.136.91 (talk) 10:58, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
