"Sala kan parian" or "sala kan prian"?
editIf I am correct, the spelling should be "sala kan prian" per the Royal Thai General System of Transcription. - Takeaway (talk) 08:48, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
- The word is actually pronounced [ปะ-เรียน] (the consonant cluster is akson nam, not khuap klam), so parian is correct. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:57, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
- The transcription program I am using was then wrong on this word. Hmmmm... - Takeaway (talk) 17:34, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
- I've been asking around a bit and apparently, the letter combination เปรี้ (also used in เปรียว; priao; "nimble") should be pronounced as "pr.." and not as "pa-r..". Otherwise, one should also pronounce "pariao", and not "priao" for "nimble". - Takeaway (talk) 09:48, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- I asked around some more and now got the following answer: the "เปรี้.." combination indeed very often transcribes to "pr.." but not in this case due to the fact that this particular word has been adopted from the Khmer language and must be pronounced indeed as "parian". - Takeaway (talk) 01:25, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
