Talk:SEAT

History

edit

There is no mention in the article to the fact that all the actual models have spanish important city names. I think is the only company of the world that does this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.26.93.29 (talk) 08:57, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

ActuaLLY, many American companies name their cars after cities: Chevy Malivu, Cherokee Laredo, Dodge Durango, etc. No mention will be given to that effect. quimero 01:22, 20 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation

edit

I only know SEAT from Italy where my grandparents have one. Is it the standard to pronounce the name 'say-ott' as opposed to 'seet'? Might be something good to add to the beggining of the article if this is true. ABart26 05:22, 8 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

In Spain, the pronunciation is 'seh-at'. --YuriBCN 20:09, 15 March 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by YuriBCN (talkcontribs)

When the marque was first introduced to Australia in the 90's, the advertising campaign said it was pronounced "say-it". matturn (talk) 10:20, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

History

edit

Here in Mexico SEAT has been marketed for a number of years-I would guess that this counts as 'international-outside of Europe'. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lyricmac (talkcontribs) 03:45, 1 February 2007 (UTC).Reply

Translation

edit

I would translate "Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo" as "Spanish Saloon Car Company" (Commonwealth English) or "Spanish Sedan Car Company" (US English). Touring is used by BMW and Mercedes for its station wagon/estate car models. It is considered historical (see Car body style).
If no one contests this, I shall replace the current, literal, "Spanish Society of Touring Cars". --YuriBCN 17:26, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Spanish pronunciation

edit

I'm from Spain and nobody here says [se'at], the correct spanish pronunciation is ['seat]. I've already edited it.--88.2.65.87 (User talk:88.2.65.87 talk<nowiki>Insert non-formatted text here<nowiki>Insert non-formatted text here<nowiki>Insert non-formatted text here

SEATSeat (automobile) – I believe the users who named this article made a mistake. According to WP:TRADEMARK, any company whose name is officially capital letters, should be titled in lowercase letters in Wikipedia, even if the marque prefers people to use this name. For example, ROBLOX is Roblox, TIME is Time, MINI is Mini (marque), The PLAYERS Championship is The Players Championship, and etc. I believe this should be renamed to "Seat (automobile)", since if we name this "SEAT", that doesn't follow the guidelines on titles based on trademarks. Cupra as a stand-alone brand?

edit

I was watching the 24h at Silverstone (TCR cars) when the announcers said something about Cupra being a stand-alone brand in the future. In fact, the screen around with 15:10 left on the clock listed a car being a "Cupra TCR". Will (Talk - contribs) 09:12, 22 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

I agree, here in Greece that I live Cupras are to sold as a separate brand, why not make a link in this article in the relevant one of Cupra? Enivak (talk) 14:20, 23 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I agree too. Cupra has appointed its own CEO, it is a separate business entity.LeonCR (talk) 18:15, 26 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Is that true? As I write, Cupra is still a brand of SEAT S.A. and is described as a brand by both SEAT S.A. and Volkswagen Group. Rally Wonk (talk) 20:32, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
