Questions

edit

Hello. I think this article is interesting, but it seems to me that there are some mistakes, which are related to one vowel of the Rotuman Vowels system: /ɔ/.

  • It is written: Vowels: Close: i u, Mid: ɛ ɔ, Open: a. But then, when some examples are given, it is written: [ˈmosɛ]. Should it not be "['mɔsɛ]" instead of [ˈmosɛ]? This is attested by the next example: [ˈpikɔ], not "['piko]" and by the Ortography section.
  • The table showing the metathesis and deletion establishes: o - øC - oC - œC - oC - waC. Should it not be "ɔ - øC - oC - œC - ɔC - waC"? This is confirmed by the following sentence: "... back vowels are fronted before front vowels of equal or greater height (/ɛ/ and/or /i/ affect /ɔ/ ..."
  • Finally, it is written: [o] → [ø]. Should it not be "/ɔ/ → [ø]"?

Thanks for reading this message. Best wishes. --Alpinu (talk) 00:41, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I see what you mean. Though most of it can make sense if /ɔ/ becomes [o] when followed by syllables with /i/, /u/, or /ɛ/. I'll edit the article to at least reflect the o-phoneme as being represented with <ɔ>, though we might want to do some research on the sources used to see what the deal is elsewhere. — Ƶ§œš¹ [aɪm ˈfɻɛ̃ⁿdˡi] 06:50, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
