Why do the career statistics in the article and infobox differ by so much? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.136.93.149 (talk) 23:07, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't know what the following means (maybe we need more context?): Artilleryman Romário is 2º bigger artilleryman of the history of the professional football, being surpassed only for Pelé. In day 23 March of 2005 Romário made a total of 900 goals (official FIFA count)

I'm pretty sure it means goalscorer. --Joy [shallot] 09:27, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
He's made more than 1000 goals, but in the official FIFA count is 900. He's really the second bigger artilleryman of the professional football, proven through abridgements of the games. --Mateusc 02:02, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

"Artilleryman" is a literal translation of the term artilheiro which in portuguese means (top) goalscorer. For example, the golden boot award given by FIFA is given to the artilheiro of the competition, or top goalscorer.LtDoc 21:16, 1 August 2005 (UTC) Arthur Friedenreich was the top goalscorer, but most of his goals are made in unofficial games. If Romario really uses his unofficial goals in this count, he isn't the second top goalscorer. pbalduino 11:36, 27 March 2007 (EAT)Reply

I've added in a retirement section and cited the main reason for his retirement being that he could not maintain his playing weight. Football nut (talk) 11:05, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Football nutReply

900 goals versus 311

edit

Maybe this is flawed Wikipedia system of only counting league goals at work, but if FIFA attribute to Romario 929 goals, and the statistics on this profile only count 311, is it really to be suggested that he scored 600 goals in Cup matches or have the Wikipedia statisticians got it hopelessly wrong? OperationOverlord (talk) 03:14, 3 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

This is only official matches from leagues, does not count friendly matches, pre-season excursions, etc. Note that Pelé also surpassed 1000th mark and his article only counts 578. --201.78.0.31 (talk) 20:57, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

953 goals in 84 matches for barcelona? i'm pretty sure this needs editing —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.225.55.82 (talk) 23:48, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

That 'statistics' table at the bottom of the page is very suspect. Here is a catalogue of the problems I've identified:

- The goals total is incorrect. Currently states: 1042. Addition of the figures comes to 992.

- The matches total is incorrect. Currently states: 1256. Addition of the figures comes to 1244.

- The goals average is incorrect. Current staes: 0.79. My calculation of the incorrect figures (1042/1256) gives 0.83. The correct figures (992/1244) gives 0.80.

- There is definitely something wrong with the Miami FC row. States 15 matches. This is less than the figure given for league games in the title box at the top of the page. It shows that he scored 22 goals in 15 matches, so the goal average should be above 1, but it states 0.76.

- Where is the evidence of matches played and goals scored collected from?

- There should probably be some explanation of what constitutes "Others".

- Why isn't it incorporated into the more comprehensive "Career Statistics" subsection?

I propose that this is corrected/validated or removed completely. The Coj (talk) 01:36, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
