Constitutional Union Party of 1850?
editThe existence of such a body (as distinct from the Constitutional Union Party of 1860) needs to be sourced. Jperrylsu (talk) 03:17, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
Calling the roll of his slaves on Bunker Hill
editAround 1856-1857, he was actually most famous in the north for his alleged remark that he would live to one day call the roll of his slaves on the Bunker Hill revolutionary war battlefield (near Boston). There's some dispute over whether he said those words, but a lot of people in the mid-1850's thought that he had... See New York Times of September 27, 1856 (rather skeptical about the denial), etc. AnonMoos (talk) 09:48, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
What does this mean?
editHe gained a populist reputation for his attacks on railroads.
- Was he attacking the robber-barons of the industry, or complaining about some other aspect of railroads? Valetude (talk) 14:27, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

Calling the roll of his slaves on Bunker Hill
editThis really needs to be included in the article, since regardless of whether or not he ever said it, millions of people during his lifetime believed that he had said it. which means it's a highly notable and relevant issue to his biography... AnonMoos (talk) 04:06, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
more work needed
editI performed a fairly major cleanup of this article, while updating a computer. I took out much of the gushing language, consolidated the info about his slaveholdings in one section, and added info about his family and final years. Frankly, the section concerning his move from unionist to secessionist needs work. It has few cites, and originally wasn't chronological either. I really don't have time to figure out the exact genealogical relationship between his wife's family and his son-in-law's family, nor is info about the deaths of his other 2 daughters readily available online.Jweaver28 (talk) 18:31, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
