editI would like to see the sources that claim he was a member in the NSDAP. From all I know, and I'm close to the family, he was not a member of the Nazi party as claimed in the article. Membership does not necessarily come with high Luftwaffe rank.
However, I know that these memberships were not readily admitted. If someone who wrote the article could comment, I'd be happy, otherwise I'd be inclined to delete that claim.

And I would like to see a source for "his relatively limited role". This is an opinion, and AFAIK wiki articles should contain facts. Opinions should be referenced, not just casually tossed around, especially when they concern a person who issued orders which beyond any dispute constitute war crimes. Also, calling this paragraph 'Controversy' makes no sense - Stahel's orders are well evidenced, the only controversy is the fact that Stahel's family is using his death prior to facing a tribunal to make some waves.
