Differences
editis it worth trying to list differences between these and some other sets of counties? found some really quite odd differences such as part of the isle of Anglesey being in Caernarvonshire registration county. Morwen - Talk 20:38, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- Sounds like a good suggestion, if you can brace yourself for the grim task. :) --Mais oui! 21:59, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- Continuing the conversation at Talk:List of counties of England by area in 1831, [1] this lists the parishes in each registration district, and where they crossed boundaries, moved etcetera. Theoretically one should be able to piece them together. I'm just wondering if there isn't a source for these already complied somewhere? Lozleader 14:59, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- well, the end of Youngs has basically what we need. Morwen - Talk 17:19, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Operational dates (Scotland)
editThis gives dates for each registration county. Is there any explanation available as to what they indicate, why they are different, and what came before? MRSC • Talk 12:49, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Answering my own question, the system of land registration was rolled out on a piecemeal basis over a number of years. [2] Any further insight would still be apreciated. MRSC • Talk 13:01, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- The counties listed are (more or less) the counties used in the previous scottish land registry, the Register of Sasines (dating from the 17th century) which is still in existence. The 1979 act introduced a map-based land registration system (similar to that in England and Wales) but kept the historical county names to minimise confusion between the old and new registers.
