Needs a review
This article isn't our best work, if it ever was. Is there any appetite for improving it, or will we go to a FA Review? --John (talk) 22:59, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
- Agreed. I can work on it this weekend. Would that be okay, John? --Krimuk2.0 (talk) 07:27, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- Of course. And of course this relates to the discussions above. An article that looks like a tabloid cannot also be a FA. --John (talk) 13:42, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
Legal troubles section again
I see that despite his editing restriction, and having been blocked (once by Seraphimblade and once by RickinBaltimore) for violating it, Hillbillyholiday has recently edit warred at this article with Tobby72 and Starswept over the Legal troubles section. Even if there had been a 72-hour wait each time, it would have been WP:Gaming the system. With this edit, Hillbillyholiday referred to two previous discussions about the section. And with this edit, he said there is "consensus not to include." Well, looking at those two discussions (Talk:Reese Witherspoon/Archive 1#2013 arrest and #Hillbillyholiday's recent edits), I see no consensus. Pinging Dr.K., Musdan77, HenryBarnill and Krimuk2.0 since the previous discussions concern them. Also pinging Tenebrae, who also edits BLPs and was there with me and Krimuk2.0 to help bring about the editing restriction on Hillbillyholiday. We can see here at the Billy Murray (actor) article and here at the David Thomson, 3rd Baron Thomson of Fleet article that Hillbillyholiday is still removing material without trying to WP:Preserve it. We can see here at the Meera Syal article that he thinks London Evening Standard is a tabloid even though tabloid (newspaper format) is not the same thing as tabloid journalism (as he's been told before). We can seen here at the Buddy Valastro article that he still think it's acceptable to remove content simply because he thinks it's "too much information." And we can see here at the Daryl Hannah article that he still has an odd prejudice against the reliable Biography.com.
But getting back to this article in particular, Hillbillyholiday stated in the "recent edits" section above that "There is a general consensus over the years not to mention trivial arrests, unless they impact significantly on the subject's career." Hmm, as stated to Hillbillyholiday before, this aspect of her life isn't trivial. It received substantial media attention, including Witherspoon apologizing for her behavior. Is this something a biography would cover on Witherspoon? I think so, and await others' thoughts on the matter. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 06:12, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
And for the record, her "Do you know who I am?" question during the incident was one of the biggest aspects, as indicated by this 2013 "Reese Witherspoon and the Beauty of Asking 'Do You Know Who I Am?'" source from The Atlantic. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 06:32, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
- I can see that the offending user has been blocked for a year. Should their deletions be restored? Krimuk2.0 (talk) 07:32, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- Krimuk2.0, like I argued at ANI, I do believe that it should be restored with context, meaning how it affected her public image/career and/or "the entitled" discussion that came out of it. In addition to The Atlantic source, there are also sources like this 2014 The Washington Post source discussing the matter in relation to her public image and career. Even if this material was added well, John would probably object to any mention of the 2013 arrest simply because Hillbillyholiday did. This is not the first time John has sought to delist an article after Hillbillyholiday has targeted it and/or even after John has disagreed with the article's editors. I could make a strong RfC case for including the material, but I don't care strongly about this article. So I leave all of this to you. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 19:04, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- And by "restored with context," I also mean that I wouldn't re-add the material under a "Legal troubles" heading. I would add it to the "In the media" section since there is not a specific "Public image" section. That section should touch on Witherspoon's wholesome, good-girl image before briefly going into the arrest aspect. You know, no different than the Jennifer Lawrence article going into Lawrence's public image. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 19:17, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- I absolutely agree that the information about her arrest should be added in the media section, but care needs to be taken that it is neutrally worded and avoids speculation. Krimuk2.0 (talk) 07:47, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Under § Early life, we should include her mother's married name if we're using née. As it stands, it reads like her name changed from Reese to Betty. So please make it read Dr. Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Witherspoon (née Reese). 151.132.206.250 (talk) 17:42, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

Reese's Book Club
This article really should say something about Reese's Book Club, which has become a force in the publishing world: How Reese Witherspoon became the new high priestess of book clubs. Zagalejo^^^ 03:43, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
Should there not be a link to her filmography somewhere
May just be me, but the section/any link to its own wiki page seems to be missing. --TheMightyAllBlacks (talk) 08:28, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
Alumna?
The article says "She later attended Stanford University as an English literature major,[21] but left the school prior to completing her studies to pursue an acting career.[13]" but a category lists her as an alumna of the university. Perhaps a mistake?--Jetam2 (talk) 19:05, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Under Personal Life the people who have influenced Witherspoon are listed as such:
(List of female actors), and actors (list of male actors).
This use of grammar implies that the females who influenced her are not actors. Please consider the following edit:
Witherspoon has cited (list of male and female actors in alphabetical order) as influences to her acting career and work. 81.111.247.22 (talk) 12:21, 15 October 2021 (UTC)
- Done I just removed actors altogether. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:54, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

Witherspoon and Toth settled their divorce 4 months later in August 2023. The exes also agreed to a parenting plan for their son together. https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/reese-witherspoon-and-jim-toth-settle-their-divorce/ Kxander23 (talk) 21:32, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
