Ramnona is proud to be Assyrian, not Iranian

Ramona's ethnicity

the person who keeps rving claims she is "iranian-assyrian" and which means she belongs 100% to the Iranian people. This is simply false. Assyrians do not belong under Iranian people. While she is ethnically half Iranian, she is no way 100% Iranian, thus she stands as a Canadian women first, descent of Assyrian and Persian/Iranian...you make up your mind if you want to call her other half Persian or Iranian. the article on the page (http://www.washingtonprism.org/eng/showarticle.cfm?id=43) says that she is "iranian-canadian" in the first sentance Rugsnotbombs

Chaldean, I think you have some misunderstandings about the term "Iranian." Saying that Ramona is 100% "Iranian" is correct since her father is Assyrian from Urmia and her mother is Persian. Persians are the primary ethnic group of Iran, but most definitely not the only one - there are literally dozens of different Iranian ethnic groups. But Ramona was born in Canada and thus unless a source can be provided that demonstrates her preference for "Iranian Canadian" or "Assyrian Canadian" or whatever, "Canadian" is the most accurate. As Abakharev has stated, there is no need for overemphasis when her heritage has already been made clear in the intro of the article. SouthernComfort 08:23, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Edit war

The question of the formal ethnic labels is usually the most hotly contested and prone to the revert wars and the less interesting to the readers. Thus, any solution acceptable to the most of the editors is fine with me.

IMHO is a Canadian woman of Assyrian and Persian heritage + Amiri's father, of Assyrian ethnicity, was born in Urmia, Iran, and her mother is Persian. provides all the ethnic info somebody would want to know. While xx-Canadian of yy and zz heritage is a kind of overdo - we either state xx-Candaian or Canadian of such and such heritage - not the both at once. Maybe we should add that her mother is from Iran as well (if there exist such ignorant people who do not know that Persians are the main nation of Iran). I would keep the Category:Iranian Canadians as the categories are usable navigation tool and somebody may look for Ramona in this category. If there is Category:Assyrian Canadians or [[Category:Assyrian people we could safely add her there as well.

This is my suggestion, please discuss yours on the talk page rather than edit warring. I can protect the page if neccessary so you would concentrate on finding the consensus. abakharev 05:30, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
