Illustrating diagram

edit

A picture/diagram would be helpful to illustrate this explaination

I can only do a .png file, but I think I'll have time this week to do up a good approximation. Banaticus 08:12, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Additional 1911 info

edit

"A mechanical construction is as follows: Let AMP be a semicircle with centre 0 A (fig. 2). Let PQ be the ordinate of the point P FIG. I. on the circle, and let M be another point on the circle so related to P that the ordinate PQ moves from A to 0 in the same time as the vector OM describes a quadrant. Then the locus of the intersection of PQ and OM is the quadratrix of Dinostratus."

I can't make much out of this, because the 1911 Britannica OCR scans don't have images. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can get it. zafiroblue05 | Talk 17:54, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Possibly file:Quadratrix animation.gif will be useful for the article? --CiaPan (talk) 20:24, 9 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

The gif is used to illustrate "polar equation of a curve" at Polar coordinate system today. — Rgdboer (talk) 22:44, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
