Can anyone shed light on the origin of the PowerPC core in the first PowerQUICC? Is it a derivation of the 601 or a separately engineered work? 217.67.129.153 09:56, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Good question. I've done my best with Google to shed some light on this, but documentation from way back when (ca 1995) is scarce. The 601 was too odd, and did not really implement a pure 32-bit PPC specification. I don't think 8xx was a derivate of it but a new implementation of the PowerPC spec in the same way that the 603, 604 and 403 cores was separate designs from the same era. -- Henriok 19:04, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
