i changed the name from "Universitatea Politehnica Bucureşti" to "Universitatea POLITEHNICA din Bucureşti" because that is the propper way to spell it. look at the stamps from official documents. see here http://www.pub.ro/romana/despreupb/index.html ... it's mentioned as "Universitatea POLITEHNICA din Bucuresti" this is the official and propper way to spell the university's name. i feel it should be spelled as such here too. I changed it back. I see no point in capitalising the name~. Mihai -talk 16:45, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's not for you to see a point. It's the standardised way of spelling the name. and the full name contains the "din" part too. if it really bugs you that the name is capitalised, at least leave it complete as: "Universitatea POLITEHNICA din Bucuresti". And please give me a reason why it shouldn't be capitalised. Give me a solid reason and I'll stop modifying this as I know it is correct (I indeeed may be wrong, but as far as I know it I am not). Actualy I've checked my diploma and I've seen it is written Politehnica with Bolded lettres but the same is for the MINISTRY OF EDUCATION IN ROMANIA and the same for the FACULTY NAME and ROMANIA. Also I've searched around Wikipedia and I've failed to see a university name which is not an abreviation to be writtten with capitalised lettres. Beside this, you can see that it is an inconsecvence on the website related to the name being written with CAPITALISED lettres only on pages describing its statute. Otherwise it is used the noncapitalised version of the name. I have failed to find a page about the name where it is written clearly that the name should be capitalised. If you can find it on the www.pub.ro website I'll be grateful, until then, Isee no point in overephasising the name by capitalising it. Mihai -talk 21:01, 13 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Not the capitalization is the (only) problem... you basically translated a proper name - Politehnica is a proper name, so with or without capitalization, the official name should be University Politehnica of Bucharest (as written in http://www.pub.ro/English/eng.htm). Hmm, the correct english name is Politehnica University of Bucharest (hence pub). - Alexandru —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.85.0.116 (talk) 21:37, 8 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Shouldn't then the name be Politehnica University of Bucharest? Or maybe "Politehnica" University of Bucharest, to emphasize the proper name. Mihai Capotă (talk) 18:24, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Polytechnic University of Bucharest → Politehnica University of Bucharest — "Politehnica" is used as a proper name in the original title, "Universitatea Politehnica din Bucureşti" --Mihai Capotă 10:18, 27 January 20

Is "polytechnic" the English translation of "politehnica"? If so, why would you translate "university" "of" and "Bucharest" but not "polytechic"? Station1 (talk) 21:14, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Because "Politehnica" is a proper noun, not an adjective in the original title. If it were, it would have been spelled "Politehnică", i.e. without the article. It used to be that way in the old title, "Institutul Politehnic Bucureşti". Mihai Capotă (talk) 09:00, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
I do not speak Romanian, but if I understand correctly you are saying "politehnic" or "politehnică" (with a diacritic) is the translation of "polytechic" but "Politehnica" could be only a proper noun in Romanian. If that is the case I understand your reason for requesting a move. I do notice a Google search for "Polytechnic University of Bucharest" yields many hits, so that name is often used, perhaps wrongly, in English. I have no opinion on the move, as long as whichever name is not used redirects to the other. Station1 (talk) 00:15, 31 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
