Date of birth

edit

Phil Ramone isn't big on telling people how old he is, but I don't think he can be over 70 years old (born in 1931 as the entry claims) if he played for Elizabeth II at the age of 10, as she wasn't queen until 1952. If he played for her at 10 years old AND if that was in the first year of her reign, then he was born around 1942. All Music Guide has a production credit for him in 1949, but I believe this is a mis-attribution, which is prevalent on AMG unfortunately. I can't figure out when he was born, but I don't think 1931 is correct. 69.180.223.22 22:53, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

How can the Ramones band be named after Phil Ramone when the band is actually named after the last name of the bands' members (johnny ramone, joey ramone etc.)— Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.253.128.60 (talk) 09:16, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

That's not the real names of the members of the band though, that was their stage names. However, I still agree that they weren't named after this guy. Even in the ramones entry on wikipedia it tells you that they were named after a pseudonym used by Paul McCartney. Cloudy 22:32, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Born on 5 January 1934 is a fact. I don't know how he could have played for the Queen of England??? He was 18 if that story is true. If he played for her at 10 years of age, it was 1942. And the Ramones were NOT named after Phil Ramone; he has never had any association with them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.204.159.22 (talk) 23:14, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Wikipedia article about the Ramones says that "All members adopted pseudonyms ending with the surname Ramone, although none were biologically related: they were inspired by Paul McCartney, who would check into hotels under the alias Paul Ramon." 98.123.38.211 (talk) 14:33, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

As an editor at Crawdaddy!, and to comply with COI guidelines, I am not posting the link to this new interview feature with producer Phil Ramone. However, I would like to recommend it on its merits, and hope that an editor will find the time to examine the article and—if he or she sees fit—post it to the external links section. I appreciate your time. Crawdaddy! [1]

Unsourced

edit

Have just added unsourced living persons tag. Would normally look for stuff myself but don't have time right now. Apart from missing refs, etc., there's no mention of his relationship with Sonny Lester & Solid State Records (jazz label). Cheers!--Technopat (talk) 23:34, 12 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Jim and Andy's was a beloved bar/diner downstars from one of the A&R Studios (next to Manny's on 48th)

edit

Manny's is at 156 W 48. A&R had studios at 322 W 48 and 799 7th Ave (between 51 and 52 St) so, unless Manny's had a branch at one time in the same block as 799 or across the street from it, it wasn't next to any of the A&R studios. There was a bar, I think it was called La Normandie when I worked at A&R, that was next to or very near 322 W 48. Maybe that was called Jim and Andy's at one time. 322 W 48's ground floor was a reception area and the "R" studios, R1 and R2 (The "A" studios, A1 and A2, were at 799) and offices and duplication were upstairs so there was no bar downstairs in that building. Next door, yes. Downstairs, no. It is possible there could have been a bar downstairs at 799. There were many other businesses in that building and block.

Maybe the sentence should read "Jim and Andy's was a beloved bar/diner NEAR one of the A&R Studios (next to Manny's on 48th)" although Manny's isn't that near to either building. Maybe the author is thinking of the bar I mentioned which was next to or very close to 322 W 48. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lipwak (talkcontribs) 02:23, 17 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Notable artists

edit

Maybe Shelby Lynne and Nikki Yanofsky are household names to some people, but I've never heard of them. Do they really deserve special mentions in this article ("Among the many albums Ramone has produced is...")? Just look at all the legendary names that are just bundled into a quick list (Bob Dylan, B.B.King, Madonna, Elton John, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, etc, etc). The listed Artist website is now DEAD

edit

http://www.philramone.com is now a dead link. Is there a new website up yet? One of his sons is running his business interests so I would assume there would be one. I'll look around but it would help if others did too.LiPollis (talk) 09:34, 9 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

To add to article

edit

Basic information to add to this article (to help make it more properly encyclopedic): information about Ramone's family background and ethnic heritage. Is he of Italian heritage? 98.123.38.211 (talk) 14:31, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
