Merger Proposal
editI proposed to merge Pennsylvania Route 97 (Adams County) into Maryland Route 97, since both highways have the same number, and the section in Pennsylvania is much shorter than the one in Maryland. Plus since there is another PA 97 in Erie County, which could provide more disambiguation between people on Wikipedia wanting to know location of the two PA 97's. By merging this article, readers can clearly tell that this PA 97 intercepts the Maryland state line. 2601:202:203:BA70:2436:4CF6:55CC:3451 (talk) 00:22, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Needforspeed888, Imzadi1979, and Dough4872: You have helped me with several improved articles such as Interstate 95 in Connecticut and Interstate 70 in Pennsylvania, so I figure you can help support the merger process of Pennsylvania Route 97 (Adams County) into Maryland Route 97. 2601:202:203:BA70:2436:4CF6:55CC:3451 (talk) 00:31, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Daybeers: I noticed your merger efforts on a road article in D.C. and I think I could use your help too gaining support for this merger. 2601:202:203:BA70:2436:4CF6:55CC:3451 (talk) 00:38, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose—each article is well developed separately. I'm generally opposed to the concept of merging same-number state highways from neighboring states into single articles, and I'd say that most of the extant mergers should be evaluated for splitting, not finding more to add to the concept. Imzadi 1979 → 01:01, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose– per Imzadi1979, both pages are GA's, PA 97 and MD 97 are two distinct highways, and, since there are two different highways named PA 97 within Pennsylvania, we would need a clunky title like Route 97 (Maryland–Adams County, Pennsylania) in order to avoid ambiguity. Needforspeed888 (talk) 01:18, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose - Both MD 97 and the southern PA 97 are decent length in their own right to warrant separate articles. I would only merge if the highways were both short such as Route 261 (Delaware–Pennsylvania). Dough4872 02:47, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- Support - southern PA 97 is pretty short for a primary state highway, less than 10 miles, so that's why I propose to merge it into its Maryland counterpart of greater length. 2601:202:203:BA70:DCBC:A54F:9F3C:592B (talk) 03:07, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- You shouldn't vote if you're the one who proposed it. Needforspeed888 (talk) 13:51, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
