South end

edit

[1] shows no state-maintained roads south of Anderson Street (9th Street Bridge) - that's the end. [2] has some photos, and the ividlog has more.

At the south end of 28 on ividlog, the vehicle turns left on Anderson just prior to the end. This may indicate a former continuation, or may just be its way of getting to northbound for the return trip.

Signs south/west of the south end
  • Lacock Street westbound - the continuation beyond Anderson Street - has south 28 signs.
  • Beaver Avenue southbound - the frontage road for the Ohio River Boulevard freeway - has a junction 28 sign at the left exit to the West End Bridge.
  • North Shore Drive eastbound at Allegheny Avenue has north US 19 Truck/28 reassurance just before the intersection (probably once had an arrow, but which way?).
  • Western Avenue eastbound at Allegheny Avenue has to 28 pointing right.
  • Ohio Street westbound just past Chestnut Street points to 65 straight. Nothing points left at I-279.

1989 map shows the whole old route - it exited the freeway at Ohio Street! Maybe it moved first and was then truncated.

1980 map puts it on Ohio Street and Western Avenue (still mostly a state route).

Pittsburgh Mills Photo

edit

I am planning a large panoramic photo from the Wal-Mart Parking lot at Pittsburgh Mills overlooking PA 28 in this area. It's coming soon, and I think it will add something nice to the article. I'm not sure when I'm taking it, sometime in 2007. --Cngodles 17:23, 12 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Construction

edit

Might be notable to include information about the construction project in 2007-2008 that widened the lanes to 3 in one place, and also had major reconstruction of the rock slide area between Harmar and RIDC Park. --64.179.113.48 (talk) 16:10, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
