Foreign Place Names
editI think it establishes a risky precedent to begin translating foreign place names. I concede that centro more or less can be translated as 'downtown' in English but I find it difficult to justify translating this word, unless we translate all foreign place name words. And that could become a monstrous and misleading task. I kept centro as it is and placed a parenthetical reference to it in the picture caption. Let me know what you think. - Again, someone has thought to translate place and people's names into English, e.g. Pedro = Peter. I think it's a terrible mistake to start doing this. It's an unnecessary task and it is without precedent (we don't call Don Quixote's author Michael Cervantes). I'll delete this edit for now and would welcome any other opinions. Races
editIt's funny how you write crap like "With the mix of races that characterizes Pelotas, the cultural richness of the city is not surprising", even though you say you do not believe in the existence of human races. Skorpio88 13:47, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
- I simply translated the Pelotas article from the Portuguese wiki. You would have to take up your complaint with the person who wrote, "Com a mistura de raças que caracteriza Pelotas, não é surpreendente a riqueza cultural da cidade." I do know that Brazilians (at least the Brazilians I met) view race differently than they do in the United States and Americans could learn a lesson from them. Feel free to change the article. Article assessment
editThe article was assessed at B quality; it is reasonably well-organized, and most of the major sections are in place. Still lacks a bit on the comprehensiveness aspect for good article status. Editors might consider reorganizing the placement of some of the photos. Review WP:LEAD for tips on writing a good lead/intro section. Review the proposed templates at WP:CITIES.
The article was rated at 'mid' on the priority scale for WP:CITIES (population over 200,000, but not a nationsl, state, or provincial capital. Rated at 'high' for WPBrazil, based on large population within that country. Dr. Cash 19:58, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
