Flores long-nosed rat → Paulamys – This animal has no common name, this name has been only used twice in the academic literature [1], Paulamys is much more common and should be the default when there is no common name. Hemiauchenia (talk) 23:28, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

• Support. Scientific name is more commonly used than "Flores long-nosed rat" (or another vernacular name, "Paula's long-nosed rat"). There is unlikely to be a single English vernacular name that is more commonly used than the scientific name for any organism that: a) doesn't occur in an English speaking country, b) was relatively recently determined to be a distinct species by scientists, and c) which belongs to a group of organisms (rodents) considered uncharismatic by the general public. It is is not Wikipedia's place to put it's thumb on the scale and attempt to popularize a vernacular name that is not commonly used. Plantdrew (talk) 01:38, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
