Earings
The sister whose earings are s-shaped is Selma.
- How often does she wear those earings, though? Even the article show her with circle earings! Sonic Mew 13:03, Jun 15, 2005 (UTC)
- Almost all the time in the later seasons of the TV show. The hair is the best way to decide between them, though. --Oppolo 19:13, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
Disco Stu
Selma Bouvier Terwilliger Hutz McClure Stu
- Do we know Disco Stu's last name? Has Selma's full name been used since marrying him? Sonic Mew 13:06, Jun 15, 2005 (UTC)
Chinese Government
"The Chinese government only allowed their children to be adopted to successful couples."
Does anyone know what rules (if any) the Chinese government has for allowing foriengers to adopt Chinese babies? If you can find anything about this, please put clause and an inline citation about it in the article. I seriously doubt they have any, especially for Chinese baby girls. Captain Jackson 20:47, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
- I doubt they do, however this is irrelevant, since the Simpsons universe is fictional even if it is sometimes alalagous to reality (i.e. Fox News, Teletubbies, Bill Clinton) but you can mention somtime such as. This is however not the real policy of the Chinese governmet^ and cite it. I think they even let same sex househoolds adopt--even single homosexuals/bisexuals, but I can't prove it, but if you can, go for it. Qrc2006 00:16, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- Julia Sweeney said in 2003 on NPR's "The Next Big Thing" that when she was trying to adopt from China, she received several calls from the agency trying to get confirmation on her orientation because the government had become aware of the prevalence of same-sex couples adopting Chinese children, and wished to prevent this. You can hear it for yourself here:In the Family Way - audio of Julia Sweeney The section about the answering machine messages starts at 13min 8sec into the 21-minute segment. (And no, I'm not telling you this from memory - I had to Google a bit to find it, but I knew I distinctly remembered the story, and I was right!) Lawikitejana 07:38, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Update: Not that I'm disagreeing that for purposes of "The Simpsons," it wouldn't have to be true. Lawikitejana 07:39, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Patty's Sexuality
A disturbing thought, yes, but nevertheless...
Patty is revealed to be a lesbian, but why did she get involved with Seymour Skinner? He is, after all, a man (presumably - I'm hoping that the next episode doesn't reveal Skinner to be a woman.) Also, if she found herself attracted to someone who was actually a man, what evidence is there of Patty actually BEING a lesbian? Well, there was an incident, if not the first, where Patty was seen leaving a berlesk house in the episode where Bart was working at the Maison Derrier. The scene never maid sense until Patty annouced that she was a Lesbian in the later seasons.
Also, the couple obviously weren't THAT close (you know what I mean? Clink-clink-pant-pant-aROOOOOO-Hubba-hubba!), if Patty never found herself in a situation where she could discover that Veronica was male. --80.42.213.21 17:59, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
- One theory I'd heard was that her reason for breaking up with Skinner, she couldn't marry him if Selma was still unmarried, was somewhat unconvincing. Or in least that on its own it wasn't enough of a reason. After Selma married three or four guys without the same consideration this should've irritated her greatly if she was in fact in love with Skinner. Still I wish they had somehow dealt with this in that episode as Skinner was in a scene at the "wedding." Personally I do think she loved Skinner in a way. However she never really displays much passion for him in the episode. He's seeing her face in Bart's graffiti, but she's still kind of stand-offish and barely allows her to kiss him. However she is seen as fairly happy with him so I think she loves him in the way a heterosexual woman would love a "kindred spirit" female friend.
- On the "three or four" guys thing Selma once mentioned that she had married Lionel Hutz, but I don't ever remember an episode where she did so or where in passing they even said she married him.--T. Anthony 06:16, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
It's actually very clear that Patty had loved Principal Skinner, evidenced in the fact that when he proposes to her she says: "It's not that I don't love you..." and then the "but". I really think that the writers hadn't planned on Patty being a lesbian from the start so this really was just a romantic interest that couldn't work out because of the "twin-bond". Or maybe Patty was just really, really deep in her closet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.155.52.20 (talk) 15:07, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Patty's Name
How do we know she isn't just called Patty, wher does Patricia come from?
Selma married to Hutz? When did THAT happen?
All over wikipedia it is claimed she married Hutz. Now obviously this stems from episode 3F20 i.e. 7x23 - Much Apu about Nothing. In it Selma says "My name's already Selma Bouvier Terwilliger Hutz McClure". (http://snpp.com/episodes/3F20.html) Now this never actually happened in any episodes - maybe the writers just chucked it in there as a joke, to make the name longer or something else. Maybe we could at least have a small section about it, 'cause it is kinda iffy. DarkSideOfTheSpoon 02:42, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
I know she gets married to Troy McClure in one episode, but they break up at the end. Vitual aelita (talk) 00:35, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Split
The article should really be split. The two live together, but they are very different, almost every episode that features them goes to great lengths to make that clear. 84.139.4.74 17:08, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, theyre not even known as anything dual like the Bouvier twins (i.e. Carlson Twins) but by separate names and articles like the President and Prime Minister of Poland (which are twins btw).
- How about we split the articles when they each hold separate high governmental offices, then? In the meantime, we mostly see them together and they are generally mentioned in one breath unless a whole plotline focuses around one of them.Lawikitejana 07:51, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
"Early evidence" of Patty's sexuality
This doesn't really qualify:
In "Saturdays of Thunder" when she is going through a list of hair style, she comments on one she didn't want by calling it "butch".
Girls make reference to various indices of fashion as butch all the time, homosexual or not. Just because a girl doesn't want to be butch doesn't mean she's a 'femme.'
When did Selma date Principle Skinner?
The only episode I know of when one of the twins dated Skinner was 'Principle Charming' and it was Patty who dated him. This page says that Selma dated him too.--Jcvamp 19:53, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Patty sees Homer naked
When Homer ran naked to pick up Bart in Brother From The Same Planet there wasn't Patty (nor Selma) in the house, Marge, Lisa and Maggie were just arriving and Flander's voice is heard outside. The episode where Patty and Selma see homer naked is a Halloween episode, though I can't remember which one.

Vacations and Slideshows
Maybe something about how they are always going on vacation and slideshows.
- In Krusty Gets Busted, they showing slides from their trip to the Yucatán
- In Principal Charming, Patty talks about their trip to Egypt, and Selma looks through a photo album on pictures at her and Patty in Egypt as well as Gettysburg and Lenin's Tomb
- In Black Widower, Selma sends Sideshow Bob a photograph of her on Easter Island
- In Flaming Moe's, they show slides of a Czechoslovakian outlet and how Selma sank right to the bottom of the Red Sea
- In Treehouse of Horror VI, they bring a pillowcase full of seashells from our trip to Sulfur Bay.
- In Kiss Kiss, Bang Bangalore, Patty and Selma eventually drive away Richard Dean Anderson by showing him slides of their trip to the Remington Carriage Museum in Cardston, Alberta
Any others?

It's not necessary because these things usually have very little to do with their overall character. Perhaps it could be mentioned, but there shouldn't be a list. -- Scorpion0422 20:05, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

He never said you couldn't give a brief description of it, just don't make a long list of every time, which there is no list of her mother or jub-jub Ctjf83talk 20:39, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Character section redundant
Nothing to do whether it's referenced or not; simply read what the Wikipedia is policy on redundancies in introductions, which is what the information in this other section is and ought to be avoided. If there was more about their creation besides this one sentence which is already stated in the introduction, then maybe it's makes sense to have it's own section. It would be like having a "VOICE ACTOR" section with one sentence about Julie Kavner providing the voices and Pamela Hayden providing it when they were younger. Not required unless there was something more to it then what was already stated in the introduction. Cladeal832 (talk) 20:43, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- A lead is supposed to be a summary of the article, so it's not redundant. Per WP:FICT, character bios must have real world info. Basically, that small section is what is keeping the page from being merged. -- Scorpion0422 20:49, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Isn't a summary but the exact same fact repeated. Think there is actually more that could be written about a section about how the character were developed, but not just the same line twice. What information that is stated in the first paragraph (as the introduction is still a part of the article and not seperate) that is further elobrated? Cladeal832 (talk) 20:57, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Give me some time and I'll expand the section. -- Scorpion0422 21:01, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Well you've got my praise for trying, which worth as much as you'd guess. Wondering if there is more about the inspiration and development of the characters. David M. Stern wrote of the episodes that dealt more with them and he is mentioned in particular in the DVD commentary for the Principal Charming episode. -- Cladeal832 (talk) 21:09, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:There's Something About Marrying.jpg
The image Image:There's Something About Marrying.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Hatred with Homer is mutual!
I disagree with the sentence: "Unlike Homer, who usually tries to be polite to his sisters-in-law out of respect for Marge, Patty and Selma have no hesitation about treating Homer with open rudeness and disdain."
I don't think Homer is very polite to them. He "tolerates" them and doesn't give as many sharp put downs, but I distinctly remember when meeting them in a store he says "Well, if it isn't Fatty and Smell-ma!" among other occassions. --Mezaco (talk) 22:33, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
