filiation should not redirect to paternity
editFiliation doesn't necessarily mean paternity; where manuscripts are concerned, it refers to the history of transmission from version to version, and especially to such transmission as discovered and reconstructed by scholars. Charmii 07:32, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
meaning
editI have the impression that (see wiktionary and others) the meaning of this word is broader.--Joep Zander 10:27, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
I totally agree. Simply looking at it from a different angle (e.g. compared to maternity) brings many complex cultural and social aspects to explore. An anthropological approach to the subject would be nice. --Enigma (talk) 03:12, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Paternity → Paternity (disambiguation) – The primary meaning of the word "paternity" has to be "father". For this reason, the disambiguation page should be moved to Paternity (disambiguation) so that Paternity can redirect to Father. Steel1943 (talk) 17:19, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose, I agree that the primary topic is father, however since the primary topic is already under the more common word for the topic there is no pressing need to free this namespace for a redirect.--KTo288 (talk) 18:30, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
- I'm confused; if you agree that the primary topic for the term is "father", then why oppose ... if you agree? Steel1943 (talk) 18:45, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose: I came here thinking I was going to agree but having noted that there is an article entitled Paternity (law) I have changed my mind and oppose. The term paternity is primarily used in formal contexts such as law, or medically such as 'paternity test'. WP:PRIMARYTOPIC requires that if a page is going to be designated the primary topic then it must be: "much more likely than any other topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined—to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term" which is not the case in this instance. It's also worth noting that the word 'paternity' does not mean 'father' as is suggested by the proposer, rather it would mean 'fatherhood' which I would imagine would be the term searched for far more regularly than 'paternity'. - Oppose per WP:NOTDICT and User:Ebonelm's comments above. Wikipedia is not a compendium of definitions; it is an encyclopedia. — AjaxSmack 02:23, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. Paternity (law) is just as or even more primary. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:39, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
