Track length

edit

Many sources on the internet suggest that the short "radio edit" was the single version, the 7'30" version was the album version, and the 8'15" version was an extended 12" version (by Ben Liebrand). Can anyone who actually has these records confirm the track lengths? 78.23.53.195 (talk) 21:49, 30 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think you're on the right track. From what I can tell, the 1978 single was about 3:55, and a 12" maxi-single release was 7:30. Apparently there were two variations of the 1978 album: one with the 3:55 edit of the track and one with a longer 7:00 cut (a later remastering extends this to 7:38). As for the 8:15 length, I own the Liebrand compilation, and the liner notes curiously cite it as the 1978 12" mix (a digital update extends the length to 8:37 and adds the word "(Reissue)" to the title). There was a 1985 remix single which also contained the original track, but at a longer running time of 8:30. Whether this length is truly restored from the 1978 master or a 1985 extended mix, my guess is Liebrand sourced his version from this. At any rate, 8:15 is not the album version. I've added a citation request to the infobox. 174.209.37.193 (talk) 08:47, 25 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Why is there no mention of the Third World version, which was a huge hit in 1978, from which Heavy D was inspired?
