History
editWhy are some of the decades in the headlines linked and some not? Arnemann 21:14, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know, but as far as I know we don't normally link in section headings. Punkmorten 22:08, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
Featured article?
editThis was a featured article in the Norwegian Wikipedia, and the contents has been translated and added here. Perhaps we could get a peer review for this and try to give it featured article status? Punkmorten 21:55, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
- It certainly needs pictures to get FA status. But where could we get them? The Norwegian Wikipedia has some, but the copyright status is uncertain/disputed. Punkmorten 22:08, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
Article size
editCurrently the article is longer than preferable. How should we fix this? Punkmorten 16:46, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
- Is it? I don't think articles in Wikipedia can have too much info. I hardly see any sections that has more info than needed. NuclearFunk
- When editing the article you get a message on top which says "This page is 42 kilobytes long. This may be longer than is preferable; see article size." It may or may not be a problem in this case, but thanks for sharing your opinion! Punkmorten 19:26, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
- I think Selected famous players should be elsewhere; it looks more like a list of famous Norwegian footballers than a list of those famed for their performances for the Norwegian national team Oldelpaso 22:59, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, I was thinking about removing that section altogether, it's too arbitrary. Instead we could expand the "national team records" lists from 10 to 15 players each? Punkmorten 16:11, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
- On the Viking F.K. page I limited the records to 7 on each. I think that would be more than enough. However, many of Norway's most talented and well-known players would not feature in these records at all. I think there should be a "notable players" section, but maybe not that large? NuclearFunk 17:23, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
- If they would not feature in such sections, then maybe they weren't particularly notable for their performances on the national team - in a broad, historical perspective. (as you can tell I removed the section. It's still 41 kilobytes long though.) Punkmorten 17:49, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Failed GA
editHi, I've removed this article from the list of nominations for Wikipedia:Good article status for the following reasons:
- No reference section. For articles to gain GA status, they must be referenced. Inline citations are not required but are preferred. See WP:CITE for help with this. After this concern is addressed, please feel free to relist for consideration. Thanks! Air.dance 23:18, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
Removed text
editI removed this section "Considering that factor and the cool climate of Switzerland and Austria which is of typical Norwegian weather, Norway is highly predicted to repeat the success of Greece and Denmark as underrated teams who surprisingly went on to become the Euro Champions."
Funny though, but how can you be highly precdicted to suprisingly win the tournament? ;)

euro 2008 info?
editI think this article need some update.Ugur Olgun 19:48, 6 September 2006 (UTC) The current squad need update, here is the March one. [1] Matthew_hk tc 11:33, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
A problem here is that Wikipedia is not a news service. It should give a historically balanced view of the topic. Punkmorten 11:36, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Help Needed Please
editI'm currently researching a footballer called Vinnie Jones to update his Wikipedia page with details of a period in his career that he spent playing in Norway.
He played for a club in (I think) the third tier of Norwegian football circa 1984-86. Whilst with the club they played in a cup game against a top-level Norwegian side and came from 2-0 to beat them 3-2.
I know this is all v.vague bt if anyone could provide me with any details (or clues!) to which club he played for or know of any links I could check out I'd be very grateful!
Thank you

Individual all-time records
editI don't want to start messing this up, but Riise is an active player (on most matches played) and should be highlighted. Small thing but probably not the hardest to fix for those able to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.215.121.104 (talk) 02:39, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Record against Brazil
editNorway is widely lauded as the only team to have ever played Brazil and never lost. From the record on Brazil's page, it seems like Norway has drawn twice and won twice against Brazil in all their matches played. I was able to track down 30-May-1997, a friendly match won by Norway 4-2. Then a World Cup group match on 23-Jun-1998, won by Norway 2-1, and a friendly match on 16-Aug-2006 ending in 1-1. That leaves one match ending in 1-1 that was played when? Any references? 173.168.177.217 (talk) 00:56, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- That match was played on July 28, 1988. Here are some references:
Oldest team in existence
editThe article says Odd Grenland (founded 1894) is the oldest team in existence in Norway. That is not true. My hometown team Mosjøen IL was founded in 1892. I do not know if it is the oldest team in Norway, but I doubt it. Odd Grenland is perhaps the oldest team in Tippeligaen. Mosjøen has never been in the top division, but had a period in the 2.division in the 70s (when 1. division was the top division). The article should be perhaps point out that Odd Grenland is the oldest team in the top division, not in all of Norway. Fvike (talk) 18:31, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
- You could be right that ODD Grenland isn't the oldest sports club in Norway, but it seems that they have the oldest football team:
- Although the sports club, Mosjøen IL, was established in 1894 (as Mosjøen Turnforening), their football department, Mosjøens Fodboldklub, weren't established until 5 June 1909, according to Mosjøen IL's history.
- The sports club, ODD Grenland, was actually established in 1885 (as Idrætsforeningen ODD), and their football department, ODDs Ballklubb, was established nine years later, on 31 March 1894.
- This means that ODD Grenland's football department is 15 years older than Mosjøen IL's. Sorry to disappoint you... lil2mas (talk) 22:27, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
Current Squad/Recent call-ups
editI was wondering where we should place players that withdraw from the national football team squad due to injueries e.g. Should they be in the current squad, or in the recent call-ups. For the friendly game against Czech Republic on 10 August 2011, Brede Hangeland and Daniel Braaten were called-up, but withdrew due to injuries, and now they aren't listed in any of those departments.. History article
editAs some have expressed earlier, this article was a little too long, so I moved the history chapter to an own article (History of the Norway national football team), and left a resumee in the main article. Since I just copy-pasted this, the History-part in this article might need some improvement since it's a little short, and the lead in the History-article might need to be rewritten. Gramatically correct translation of name
editThe correct translation of the national football team of Norway is not Norwegian but Norway. This is similar to the correct transliteration of the Mexico National football team that formerly was title in WP as Mexican. It is not the practice or the policy of national teams that someone be a citizen, born or naturalized, or be a resident of the country they play for at the international level. So the grammatically correct transliteration would be in those instances when the name of the country is used such as Norway instead of Norwegian just as it is not Mexican National football team but the Mexico national football team. A true grammatical transliteration should be the practice in the English language WP instead of imposing those grammar rules on another language.2605:E000:9149:8300:BC20:12BB:CDBE:FD1B (talk) 12:02, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
“Norway” leads here by mistake
editSearched for Norway on wikipedia mobile version, found article about country of Norway, clicked, it led to this article. 37.73.33.30 (talk) 14:31, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
- Norway is the article for the country of Norway, so you might have clicked this one by accident. TylerBurden (talk) 07:13, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

editThere is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Afghanistan national football team which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 15:00, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
Lack of Win % column
editThe table with records of past and current managers in Coaching History section does not have a column with Win %. This is a standard in similar articles with records of managers. I tried to add this column but this table seems to be in a different format than other articles where a field is used that calculates the ratio automatically (number of wins divided by number of games). Could someone add this column, including re-formatting the table if needed, please? 193.120.161.6 (talk) 12:35, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
