editOverall, a significant contribution to Wikipedia that gives a good background to the genus. There were a few things that needed to be addressed, however, including the following:
- There were minor issues with grammar and wording throughout - It is incorrect that phytoplankton cannot use nitrite; if fact, some can use nitrite that cannot use nitrate (e.g.: DeYoe HR, Suttle CA (1994) The inability of the Texas "brown tide" alga to use nitrate and the role of nitrogen in the initiation of a persistent bloom of this organism. J Phycol 30:800-806). This statement was changed to indicate that nitrate is an important source of DIN for primary production - Throughout the page, the genus Nitrobacter was used as if it was an organism. The genus name cannot stand alone unless it is used with sp. or spp., to indicate single or multiple species, respectively. Also, Nitrobacter is the name of a genus, not a cell or population. - It needs to be explained how Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter in both oceanic and terrestrial ecosystems affect eutrophication. - “A follow up study performed by Navarro et al. (1995) showing a 60MDa plasmid and a 37 MDa plasmid in freshwater and sediment Nitrobacter populations.” This is not a complete sentence, and it is not clear how the plasmids tie into nitrite oxidation. - It would have been nice to see something about their importance in aquaculture and diversity, for example. - It would have been nice to include more information about their abundance and distribution

The following part is completely wrong
"Nitrobacter play an essential role in aquaponics. Nitrosomonas bacteria first convert ammonia into nitrites. Nitrobacter convert the nitrites into nitrates, which are readily absorbed by the plants."
In DNA testing it has been shown that it is fact Nitrospira that does the nitrite to nitrat conversion in vivo, NOT Nitrobacter.
