Irrelevant Praise

edit

This company surely made a name for itself with the electric EP9 setting records at Nürburgring Nordschleife and elsewhere, beating traditional ICE-powered sportscars from Porsche and others. -- Matthead  Discuß   01:53, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Move to NIO suggested. -- Matthead  Discuß   03:17, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I don't know... At the moment this would seem to be quite OK, but I can imagine some more uses for the letters "NIO" who just haven't got their own page yet. F. ex. in quality control as a shortcut for "not in order". Instead of moving back to "NIO (car company)" when the need arises for a "NIO" disambiguation page, I tend to vote for "leave it as it is". --BjKa (talk) 08:42, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
On the other hand, if you want to just go ahead and do the move I'm certainly not gonna vote for reverting that either. --BjKa (talk) 08:46, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Jargon

edit

The section "NIO ES8" speaks of "the X-bar and NIO's signature "Spark Beat" taillights". This needs to be explained. --BjKa (talk) 08:42, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Owners

edit

Who are the owners of the company? Missing such info in the infobox. Thanks, WikiHannibal (talk) 19:42, 3 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

'Safe' in lede

edit

@184.151.179.240: Don't want to edit war, but I don't think 'safe' shouldn't be in the lead. None of the sources mention the company as particularly noted for the safety of its cars. If there are specific safety features, it would be better to write about them in the Technologies section, citing reliable sources. Thanks TeraTIX 13:29, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Position data

edit

Just want to clarify why I removed this:

According to the press, NIO is among 200 car manufacturers that transmit the position data of customers to Chinese government-backed monitoring centers. "Chinese government's monitoring of electric cars raises surveillance fears". Fox News. November 29, 2018. Retrieved November 29, 2018. {{cite web}}: Italic or bold markup not allowed in: |publisher= (help)

The source clearly states that it is a Chinese policy for all electric vehicle manufacturers, it doesn't make sense to add local legislation to an article about a car brand. (Tesla obeys that law too and it is not deemed notable for the respective article.)

The following Wikimedia Commons file used on this page or its Wikidata item has been nominated for speedy deletion:

You can see the reason for deletion at the file description page linked above. —Community Tech bot (talk) 11:37, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

I nominated the image for deletion and it is now gone. I have gone ahead and removed the sequence of all three edits made by the user who (ab)used the image here. While superficially a well-sourced, new section on an extensive recall due to vehicle fires, the cited sources did not hold up to inspection. They were in fact total fabrications, with the URL just pointing to the car maker's own web-page. I suggest editors of this and similar articles pay extra attention to new additions regarding fires and recalls, especially when coming from editors with a short contribution history. Lklundin (talk) 20:20, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I have stricken the above, since I have mistakenly accused the editor of wilfully creating a misleading text with misleading sources. With the help of another editor I have become aware of my mistake - which was to load the cited sources in some incorrect manner apparently causing them to not display in a readable manner in my browser. As such the removed content was just a relatively benign case of non-adherence to copyright. I apologize to anyone inconvenienced by this. Lklundin (talk) 21:05, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

NIO Day revert

edit

I reverted the addition about the Nio day and its "headliners" as I can find no independent verification other than press releases and their own company website saying such things, they were apparently headlined by bruno mars which would surely gather more than just press release in terms of sourcing and also video footage (the images and videos of the "event" don't corroborate that he was there, the footage of his perfomance is isolated and is just as easily to be taken from a tour than the "event"). The same thing is occuring with Imagine Dragons. Lavalizard101 (talk) 23:08, 28 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Area served

edit

Under “Area served” currently listed are:

  • China (including Hong Kong and Macau)
  • Germany
  • United Kingdom
  • United States
  • Norway

The citation is a link to https://www.nio.com/about. I think, only China and Norway should be on that list, because in Norway NIO actually delivered cars (https://ir.nio.com/news-events/news-releases/news-release-details/nio-inc-provides-september-and-third-quarter-2021) but not in any other country outside of China. The mentioned Germany, United Kingdom, and United States are AFAICS only places where NIO operates offices but does not sell cars yet. --185.71.209.215 (talk) 08:10, 10 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

I see your point, but "served" may not apply only to sales. R&I (USA, England) plus design (Germany) are "serving" business development, marketing, and future customers. Zefr (talk) 16:37, 10 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Public listing section

edit

This section needs to be updated to provide details of the other NIO listings on other exchanges and their listing types/dates. 195.89.137.60 (talk) 20:23, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Suggested Manufacturing section

edit

Section should cover XPT factory (XPT is 100% owned by NIO), the joint JAC factory, and Neo Park. 195.89.137.60 (talk) 20:26, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Page is too promotional

edit

I’ve made some edits but more is needed, especially from someone who knows better the company/have a native Chinese view on it. Phm123 (talk) 06:58, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
