circulation of the Columbian
editWhen I wrote what was changed here just now, I was referring to MID century, about 1950. The Province 's circulation was a lot smaller than the Sun 's and I think the Columbian was still the second-largest paper in the Lower Mainland until 1960 or so. I don't have a circulation history to cite that though. I take it that whoever made that change either is a Province fan or from the Province's p.r. department. But that may have only become the case once the Columbian when from a daily to a weekly in the early 1970s or late 1960s.Skookum1 (talk) 04:41, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
Greg Moore
editShould he really be included here? He seems to have been born here, but is most widely associated with Maple Ridge. He went to school there, he has a community centre named after him there and it is where his funeral was held. I have been unable to find any substantial associations with him and New West aside from being where he was born. The are two people named Greg Moore. The mayor of POCO is Greg More and he was born in New Westminster. His father Bruce Moore grew up in New Westminster and attended Richard McBride school,Vincent Massey and Lester Pearson. He became a school teacher and moved to Port Coquitlam where His son Greg Moore became mayor− — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.156.73.56 (talk) 04:52, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
- I haven't seen anything saying he was born in New Westminster and see an unreferenced mention on his wiki page that he was born in Maple Ridge. I've removed him from here. Air.light (talk) 05:21, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
Merging section Education with Educational Institutions
editThe two sections are highly related and very overlapping. It would be better if they were one section. Sbznpoe (talk) 01:04, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
Who was Indigenous to New Westminster? Qayqayt or Kwantlen?
editI'm trying to correct this page, as it lists qayqayt as the Indigenous nation in New Westminster. And because of that, you get bad media coverage, and a bunch of other bad things happen. Qayqayt was invented in 1994. Kwantlen First Nation was the Indigenous nation from there. Here's some evidence:
1. Story showing qayqayt was created in 1994: https://newwestschools.ca/about-us/first-nations-territorial-acknowledgement/the-qayqayt-first-nation/
2. Archeology book, discussing Kwantlen's origins at New Westminster: https://docs2.cer-rec.gc.ca/ll-eng/llisapi.dll/fetch/2000/90464/90552/548311/956726/2392873/2449925/2450825/2784857/C198%2D11%2D4_%2D_Evidence_of_Chief_Marilyn_Gabriel_%2D_Vol._4_%2D_A4L8J8.pdf?nodeid=2785525&vernum=-2
If you look carefully, every citation given for Qayqayt's history is from different interviews with the current chief of qayqayt - the person who created the band in 1994. She's taking every bit of actual history from the region and saying it was her newly created nation. Archeology disagrees with her. As does history. If they even existed before the 1990s, why not link to that history? It's a circle of links that all lead back to her, and not to hard evidence. 2604:3D08:4E80:C100:F8A2:BD97:9400:3284 (talk) 18:36, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
