Untitled
editDoes anyone have a Lat/Long position for Naucratis, or the name of the modern city/settlement (if there is one) at its site? The closest position I've seen is Lat: 30.9°, Long: 30.6° from the following site - http://www.ancientroute.com/cities/naucratis.htm. Using google earth to glance at those general coordinates, nothing stands out from the countless hamlets and irrigated fields.
Expansion
editI have expanded the article but must say that not being attached to an academic community makes it difficult to obtain journals & books of specialized knowledge. I have found University libraries generally not obliging to the ordinary citizen (loaning books out, use of their computers, etc.) which can be understood as their primary mission is to serve the student. Yet this sets up a barrier to the flow of in-depth knowledge from the school to the surrounding community of citizens. Much thanks must go to a professor friend of mine. A great addition would be a modern picture of the site. If anyone lives nearby and could upload such a shot, it would enhance the article greatly. Alcmaeonid 17:43, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Modern locale
editKinda tricky. The external link says the site is spread across the modern villages of Kom Gi’eif, el-Nibeira and el-Niqrash. A web search for any of these doesn't leave you with much to work with, but the locations are listed on Microsoft; as Ju'ayf, An Nubayrah and An Niqrash. (While Google simply has An Niqrash and Nibeira and omits the third) - I've used the relative locations of these to add a coordinates template. Brando130 (talk) 02:05, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
