Talk:National Provincial Championship (2006–present)

Change article title to: Air New Zealand Cup and Heartland Championship

edit

Have the title of this page changed to Air New Zealand Cup and Heartland Championship as the NPc no longer offically exists

May I ask why a new page just wasn't created for the new competitions rather then renaming the NPC page as that would have been alot easier and have a lot cleaner look. As this page has called "Air New Zealand Cup" but has info on previous NPC which should be on a NPC page even though it is no longer going it still can have its own page.

Agree with you completely - thus, I've corrected it, removing the redirect on the NPC page and moving the relevant data there. Gialloneri (talk) 15:05, 14 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal

edit

The competition is now referred to again as the National Provincial Championship so I renamed this page National Provincial Championship (2006–present). However I suggest that this article is merged with the National Provincial Championship (1976–2005) article into a single National Provincial Championship article. As the 1976-2005 article overlaps with a lot of information and for simplicity it could be kept on one page. Socks 01 (talk) 04:00, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

My commiserations for persevering with the recent "move marathon" (please excuse my acid edit comments - I was in the middle of changing the names in the lede when I endured a dozen successive edit conflicts as the article title was changing literally every minute or so !)
I can see where you're coming from Socks 01 and if we were fairly sure that the name wouldn't be changed again at the sponsor's behest in the next few years, I'd support you.
Unfortunately, if you look at the section just above entitled Change article title to: Air New Zealand Cup and Heartland Championship from more than 13 years ago, you'll see the sense in keeping separate articles for each new iteration of this competition... so Oppose for now, too - sorry! --BushelCandle 06:55, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose for now Merging the articles would make one enormous article unless you propose to cut large sections out. As BushelCandle also points out there is no indication that it will remain as the NPC again for a considerable period of time as another side may well take up the sponsorship name. Also with the potential for complete change in the tournament format that has been discussed that could well change the tournament name as well. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 09:34, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Also the 2006 season saw a complete change in the structure of the competition, with the 14 professional side set up, so it seems like a good break point for the article. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 12:51, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Alternative

edit

Hi, ok do you think the National Provincial Championship (2006–present) article should be moved back to Bunnings NPC instead as this is a common and simpler name and keep the National Provincial Championship (1976–2005) article as it is with brackets to avoid confusion? Socks 01 (talk) 07:05, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes, as long as it doesn't cause any more confusion or mess up the edit histories... --BushelCandle 07:13, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
I said on my talk page that I think this current name is a good one, as it means we won't have to move it every few years when the naming rights changes, but keep specific seasons as sponsored i.e. 2021 Bunnings NPC. Moving would mean having to move all the team pages as well as they use the tournament name as a disambiguator. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 09:26, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Good point ! --BushelCandle 09:51, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Took me a good half hour to move all the pages and associated templates yesterday. I'll check all the previous names redirect to the correct tournament though. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 09:57, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Merging proposal to inaugural tournament

edit

I believe this article should be merged with the inaugural tournament, as proposed in 2021. Despite the 2006 restructure that created the breakaway Heartland Championship, the NPC has persisted in its current form. I've updated the original article to show how it would look once merged. It seems illogical to have two separate articles for a single competition, but I'm open to exploring any existing entries on Wikipedia. Kidsoljah (talk) 01:46, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
