Ant Lion... or oyster?
editThe description in the Aberdeen beastiary is a perfect description of the shell of an oyster with an oyster within it, as if from someone who knew nothing of mollusc biology. Could this have been a false guess at the meaning of what was actually a misspelling? Maybe something like Mermen scrotum (coleon) had been meant? (I'm sure if I knew Scottish and Greek, I could take a better guess, but I could actually understand how an oyster could be described as a mermen scrotum.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.175.220.10 (talk) 19:46, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
