Rules

edit

Please add the rules for this round. Are they allowed to use a recipe? IS there there a cost limitation for the ingredients? What are the time frames for prep time and cooking? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.171.213.68 (talk) 10:55, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm not aware of any specific published information that could be cited to answer these questions for the current season. I had the impression there is a 3hr prep timeframe until the guests arrive, followed by a suggested 1hr/1hr/1hr service. For last season, apparently the budget was $1700 including booze, food, and decorations.

"Elimination history" table format

edit

G'day!

I've recently changed the table format for Elimination Charts (in all MKR articles actually), simply just to improve it. It doesn't hurt my eyes anymore as the previous layout were very inconsistent with table widths. Moreover, the "SAFE" word! The OVERCAPITALISATION of that word is everywhere in the table, doesn't really look good AS A READER. Well, doesn't it? If you wish to change the color/s, do so. But please, avoid overcapitalisation and perhaps the cell widths.

Let's make it a good one, as those to the The X Factor and Big Brother articles. If you have objection on this move, please do not hesitate to comment on this talk page.

Cheers! --FrancDeBx (talk) 20:15, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi everyone! This is FrancDeBx. I'm lazy to login my account hence I'm using an IP one. LOL. Anyway, there are recent changes in the elimination table format (the colours and what info should be in it), so that it would really look like, or should I say to feel the "Summary"-ness of the show. I actually followed the format in The X Factor (UK series 9) article.
I tried to transform this new look in other MKR season articles, but someone logged-in in an IP account keeps on changing it, reverting to the old one. I have told him/her to respond in this talk page to communicate about this matter, but unfortunately, I didn't hear anything from him/her.
If there are any objections, violent reactions, or suggestions, I would be happy then! Please do not hesitate to reply. I'm looking forward to it! Cheers! 101.112.180.65 (talk) 18:40, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
P.S. This is the new table format
...and let's make this a good article! 101.112.180.65 (talk) 18:40, 20 February 2013 (UTC) (AKA FrancDeBx)Reply
and one thing I observed! Summaries and narrative stuffs are always below the "Elimination history" table. Do you think it is good to move elimination chart table above the Summary? 101.112.180.65 (talk) 18:51, 20 February 2013 (UTC) (AKA FrancDeBx)Reply

Style and format of Season 4 page

edit

Perhaps we could use the Season 3 page of an example of what could be achieved here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.162.200.156 (talk) 06:29, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

do you mean, those narrative stuffs? If so, I have no objection with that. This article needs to be more detailed and informative. I hope someone could put it immediately before episodes pile up. 101.112.176.173 (talk) 18:59, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I find so-called "narrative stuff" about each team too long to read (and too long to scroll, as well). As a reader, I am more interested to see how the show progressed (through presentable tables) than reading how "EACH" team performed. Hence, I swapped this content with the Elimination history table. Labeling teams as Group 1 or Group 2 or Gatecrashers is unnecessary since they will be all competing each other in the upcoming rounds. Thus, I removed those part in summary section.  Philtro  Talk  16:43, 28 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

'Teams' table

edit

Instead of putting "15th place"... "14th place".. and so on, in the eliminated teams' status, why don't we just removed it?? Let's do it like one in the.MasterChef tables. What do you think? It is not recognized that team eliminated first is automatically 15th placer since they were in different groups. 101.112.176.173 (talk) 18:52, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Could anyone tell me how Lisa and Stefano went off to 15th place, who was eliminated recently while Jessie and Biswa place higher than them at 14th place? Confusion and dispute in this nth place must be removed. 101.112.189.177 (talk) 14:19, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
There are no official placings in MKR. The places written here (and in earlier years) are just inventions of Wikipedia editors. If there were official placings, then surely the criterion for comparing places must be the elimination points. On that basis, Lisa and Stefano came last, as they had the lowest points. But I agree that the placings are not official or based on reliable sources, so I support removal. WWGB (talk) 01:43, 28 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dishes?

edit

I really think this process of listing every dish by every couple in every round is overkill. It is too much detail, akin to how many tears were shed or what nasty things were said. The article will get bogged down, and become uninteresting and unread. The scores awarded to each couple in each round is sufficient. WWGB (talk) 12:31, 2 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Elimination Table

edit

Hi there all, it seems no one can agree on the appropriate table for MKR 4, i'd like to know out of curiousity who would like the old format, and who would like the new?? Also, those who keep changing the elimination table to the new format, i apologize for continuously changing it to the old format, i just strongly support it, and am also very stubborn!!

Also, maybe we need to put 'nth' back into the contestants tables and give them placings, either lisa and stefano 15th - lisa and candice 13th or vice versa, sure they were never annoucned as 15th 14th and 13th, but they were 1st second and third to go!! ....

(Jake3101 (talk) 01:05, 4 March 2013 (UTC))Reply

There are no official placings in My Kitchen Rules, other than first (winner). To suggest there are places like 15th, 14th etc is original research which is not permitted in Wikipedia. The only fact we can report is the date on which a team was eliminated. Regarding the elimination table, I think "everyone" is in agreement except you. I find the new table to be more informative and attractive than the previous version. WWGB (talk) 01:24, 4 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

So when a team is eliminated with 3 teams remaning, will they be discredited and not ranked 4th? or ranked 10th because other teams performed better then them the whole competition?? Everyone... is that just the few silly ones who keep changing the format?? The new table is ugly, and is not more informative then the previous version, current in my books. We are not talking about The X-Factor or Masterchef here, its MKR!

The order in which teams are eliminated is made clear from the elimination date, we don't need to invent "places" to establish that. Only three people seems to have an opinion here, and it's 2:1 in favour of the "new" table. Whether it's X-Factor, Masterchef or MKR, the only consideration is building the best article possible. WWGB (talk) 10:24, 4 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

MKR Season 1

State flags instead of state abbreviations?

edit

Since MKR is a cooking competition of Australian states, I come up with an idea to replace state abbreviations to Australian state flags all over this article. The table would look like this:

Teams' performances on the first People's Choice Challenge
Team Dish Result
  Luke & Scott Safe – Immunity2
  Mick & Matt
  Ali & Samuel
Angela & Melina Baharat Beef with Sweet Potato Mash and Mint Yoghurt Sauce People's Choice
Ashlee & Sophia Chocolate Berry Tartlets Through to Rapid Cook-off
Dan & Steph Pavlova with Lemon Curd and Raspberry Jelly
Jake & Elle Crusted Pear with Berry Compote
  Jenna & Joanna Croquembouche
Josh & Andi Salmon with Salsa Verde and Asparagus
Kerrie & Craig Lamb on Quinoa Fattoush with Flatbread
Sam & Chris Pasta with Chorizo and Pesto
Kieran & Nastassia Kangaroo with Beetroot Relish and Bordelaise-Style Sauce Through to Sudden Death

What do you think? I look forward to your response. Cheers! -FrancDeBx (talk) 05:49, 11 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think not. At that size they are basically indistinguishable. It's very hard to mistake the abbreviation of each state. WWGB (talk) 05:54, 11 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

This is a possible idea. They pretty much match the MKR flags for each state. they are not actually official in the comp, but it does make the table look nicer (also see the new colour idea at the bottom of the talk page Cloud31495 (talk) 04:37, 24 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

New elimination table format (again)

edit

Hello everyone! I'm very sorry to disturb you once again. Previously, I have proposed a new elimination table format for the show and most of you (I think) approved it. However, I didn't see the risk of how it would like once a series ended, as to how it looks like in Series 3 elimination table. It is very congested and stuffed-up because of too much texts in ONE cell. For example, the Sudden Death cells (the words Sudden Death are too long to fit in a cell, adding the points gathered by the team making it worse). I take pity on people who are using computers with lower resolution (1024 x 768 and lower). I tried it myself to check it, and yes, it doesn't look good.

In line with this, I am (again) proposing another elimination table format, which is actually based on American Idol elimination charts. It is more informative and more comprehensive as I added new features:

  • new format shows a team's representing state;
  • a row for "elimination episode" is put instead, so that we don't have to put "Eliminated (Episode #)" everytime a team is eliminated; and
  • distinguishable teams who were Safe after Rapid cook-off and who were Safe after Showdown.

The numbers presented are the points gathered by a team on a round.

Take a look for a sample table below (based on Series 3):

Colour key:
  – The team was the top scorer of the round, or was People's Choice (PC)
  – The team was selected by the winner of People's Choice to be safe from elimination
  – The team was safe from elimination after Showdown
  – The team was one of the lowest scorers, and has to compete in another instant restaurant or Sudden Death round
  – The team was granted immunity status and did not participate on the round
  – The team placed last in one of the challenges of the round, and was eliminated immediately
Note:
  • ^Note 1 – In Round 3 after winning the peoples choice, David & Scott won immunity for the rest of the week and a holiday in Far North Queensland, Pete & Manu stated that they could pick one team to join them on the holiday, also granting that team immunity, they chose Nic & Rocco.

I look forward everyone's comments, objections, violent reactions, or suggestions. Cheers! If no one would respond regarding this action, this new table format will be carried out and will be used by default. FrancDeBx (talk) 07:07, 20 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry but this table just does not work! The previous one works much better, and if you can't fit sudden death in a cell, use the "{{nowrap| " format! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.220.59.136 (talk) 10:40, 20 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Could you please give me any reason why it doesn't work? I think we do not need to put the words "Sudden Death" in a cell because it's already in a blue background, making it redundant. What would be the use of the Colour key then? And regarding the nowrap tag, yes, I know about it. But, it will just make the columns uneven with the width. The previous one was too wordy, as there were lots of texts, it makes the table bigger (3 lines in a cell) as it consumes the space of the whole screen.
And please, do not shout. I don't get it why'd you have to do shouting. LOL. Cheers! FrancDeBx (talk) 11:11, 20 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
How is the casual reader supposed to know what "PC" means? Politically correct? Personal computer? If the text does not fit the cell then make the font smaller. Let the table tell the story without reference to the key. WWGB (talk) 14:14, 20 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I didnt intend to come across as shouting... if I was i would have ended with this... '!!!!!!' lol. Maybe we can keep the table the same, but make it smaller, for example the Celebrity Apprentice :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.220.59.136 (talk) 02:22, 21 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Alright. It seems everyone doesn't agree with the new table. How about a new colour for teams who were 'Safe after Showdown'? Do you want to add it on the current table? FrancDeBx (talk) 06:10, 21 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Okay. Since no one responded after 6 hours, I'm doing it. -FrancDeBx (talk) 12:15, 21 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
This looks nice, but the current table format is fine. Besides this new format will now cause headaches with the Comeback Kitchen, as someone is eliminated from the main competition and again from the Comeback Kitchen. Unless you put two rows, but this can get confusing.

Competition or Elimination History?

edit

Should the Elimination history section be named 'competition history' instead? as it shows more than just eliminations, but a breakdown of Peoples choice winners and sudden death scores etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.166.3.76 (talk) 05:20, 2 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Separate comeback kitchen table?

edit

Should there be a Separate table for the history of the comeback kitchen? The table for all the other teams is titled 'Elimination History, but these challenges (for the comeback kitchen) shouldn't necessarily be put into the elimination table, because they are separate challenges to the actual competition, plus It would really save a lot of debate on the placings of the 4 teams in the elimination history, eg, their original placings or their comeback placings. Just a suggestion .... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.220.59.136 (talk) 11:52, 9 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

No, keep it all together. If the title is a problem, call it Series 4 History or something. WWGB (talk) 11:56, 9 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

New Colour code?

edit

make the colour code for elimination history simpler and easier to read

Current Colour Key

Colour key:
  – The team was the top scorer of the round, or was People's Choice
  – The team was selected by the winner of People's Choice to be safe from elimination
  – The team was safe from elimination after competing in a showdown
  – The team was one of the lowest scorers, and has to compete in another instant restaurant or Sudden Death round
  – The team was granted immunity status and did not participate on the round
  – The team placed last in one of the challenges of the round, and was eliminated immediately

New Colour Key

Colour key:
  – Top Scorer/People's Choice
  – Participated in Showdown or extra instant restaurant round
  – Won Sudden death cook-off
  – Eliminated after round or Sudden death

- removed immune colour key. It will say immune and stay white.

- removed safe from being selected by winner. this only happened once and does not need its own colour key.

I put back the Immunity and Safe by selection colours. No need for a colour key, since the coloured cell already speaks for itself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FrancDeBx (talkcontribs) 15:40, 19 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Elimination table order

edit

To make the table readable again, once the winner of the comeback kitchen has been decided, they will be listed in alphabetical order with the other 4 teams.

All other teams will return to their ORIGINAL elimination position — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.170.239.83 (talk) 11:54, 17 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

No, teams should be listed in the order that they were ELIMINATED, not sent to the naughty corner to be given a second chance. WWGB (talk) 12:00, 17 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Original elimination position does refer to their original elimination not the comeback eliminations, except for the actual comeback kitchen winner. Actually sorry for the confusion, the one winning comeback team will join the other 4 teams in order, the rest will return to their original placings 58.170.239.83 (talk) 12:10, 17 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Little bit confused with the final order here. teams should be listed as they were ELIMINATED and not sent to comeback kitchen?? WWGB I'm not quite sure what your trying to say --Cloud31495 (talk) 12:03, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

There is only one true elimination date, and that is the date from which the team takes no further part in the competition. We know that the initial "elimination" in many cases did NOT mean elimination, as teams returned to compete further. The correct order for any list is the order in which a team left the program for the last, final, ever time. WWGB (talk) 13:58, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Can you please explain the post you made here where it says 'No, teams should be listed in the order that they were ELIMINATED, not sent to the naughty corner to be given a second chance.' It was this quote that got me a little confused--Cloud31495 (talk) 19:44, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

We now know that when the program told Mick and Matt, for example, that they were "eliminated" that was not true. Yes, they disappeared from the show for a time, but they returned and, at this time, could go on to win the competition. So, the first "elimination" was not a true statement for some contestants (those allowed to comeback). My reference to a "naughty corner" was an attempt to indicate that Mick and Matt (and others) were not really eliminated at first, but waiting in the wings like a naughty child or a class dunce, to await the "right" time to be allowed to return. Stating they were "eliminated" was simply untrue and manipulative. WWGB (talk) 01:44, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Elimination history table width

edit

can everyone leave the width of the table and grid as it is. There is only one week of the competition left and there is just enough space to fill up the remaining boxes without having the table going off the screen. thanks --Cloud31495 (talk) 20:53, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

best possible option

edit
    • I just have to state, that this below table has to be the best possible option, the main competition table fits well, the cells aren't changing shape because the table is too big, and the comeback kitchen, separate table shows the progress of the separate competition.

Oppose. I disagree strongly with splitting the tables. There is only one competition, it's called MKR4. The all-in-one table describes and delivers the complete story of the series. Why make readers look in multiple places for a summary? There was nothing wrong with the table you sought to replace. WWGB (talk) 03:20, 23 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • There sure is something wrong with the current table that I sought to change!
    • the team names should be presented as "Ashlee & Sophia" not "Ashlee &
      Sophia"
    • Sudden Death should be presented as style="background:pink;"|Sudden Death
      31 pts
      , instead of style="background:pink;"|Sudden
      Death

      31 pts
    • That waste of space brown line after the First elimination after sudden death for Kerrie & Craig, Jenna & Joanna and Ashlee & Sophia needs to be removed
    • The comeback kitchen challenges need to be separated to prevent this table loking ugly and unreadable
    • And lastly, the table should maybe be viewable to a full screen, whereas I currently have to scroll up or down to see the top or bottom of the table.

Agree with WWGB to leave table as it is.

  • Entire comp in a single table. If you had problems scrolling up and down to see the whole table, it would be even harder if there was two. Also i prefer scrolling up and down rather than left or right to see the table.
  • If they were separate, readers who do not follow the show would not know where the comeback kitchen comes in, whether it was during, before or after the main comp? the comp is placed in chronological order so that we would know when which event took place.
  • Spacing e.g Ashlee &
    Sophia and Sudden
Death is necessary as there is too much width being taken up since this MKR season has been extended compared to prev. seasons. Even the official MKR names have them split like that, in the intro and video message diary etc.
  • Currently all cells are the same size and shape, seems much cleaner and presentable
  • Brown line or box indicates the first elimination before a re-elimination. Teams that moved directly to a comeback kitchen after elimination did not skip a round therefore it is a brown line to indicate this . the colour code below explains this, we need to put in as much information as possible with minimal detail.
  • A suggestion is that the comeback kitchen headers could be coloured differently or noted to explain that this was a spinoff to the main competition, but still relates to the entire MKR4 comp. Cloud31495 (talk) 05:36, 23 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Teams Table

edit
    • Does anybody else think that this is a more suitable table for team information? Cells, are one line, the table looks neater and is smaller in size, and there is an extra box on the left side of the colored cells telling us which state the team is representing there is really no point because it is already stated in the colored cell!!!

The reason why the table has full state names is because there could be more than just an Australian audience who could be reading this page. Some people might not understand what VIC SA QLD NSW etc means. Remember this page may read by more than just an Australian audience. Secondly, the 'Group 1/2 etc' are only significant for a portion of the competition and having them listed like that in your table makes it look like those groups are permanent for the whole comp. How about we take away the groups and numbers also, for example there will be no WA 1 or WA 2, just WA, and maybe use the nowrap feature for the state names, therefore making all the cells smaller and on one line — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.179.109.179 (talk) 06:53, 6 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

What do you think of these two??

State column way too wide! Cloud31495 (talk) 07:16, 6 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Can we have the same version of this table locked in for season 2? I have been trying to make it the same as the current one but somebody keeps changing it back to old colors and adding the groups!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.146.173.187 (talk) 10:55, 9 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
