Updated page to include her political/publishing background, as she is now a figure of note given her role in the new Conservative PM's office.
Revolutionary Communist Party not libertarian
editI corrected the page along the lines of the reference to say she started in revolutionary not libertarian politics. Given where she ended up it is easy to assume that the RCP was a libertarian Marxist group. However, libertarian Marxists have a strong, if idiosyncratic, commitment to democracy where as the RCP were full supporters of the dictatorship of Lenin and the Bolsheviks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dejvid (talk • contribs)
- I think I agree. However, I have a bit of a problem with the text. We have an RS (The Economist) that she was a member of the RCP and a contributor to Living Marxism; however, our RCP article says it was disbanded in 1997 and Living Marxism rebranded as LM that year. Our article says she graduated in 1999, so went to Oxford in 1996, so it is just plausible that she was a party member in the final days. Powerbase (not an RS) has links to the primary sources and has her first connections to the network in 1999, including her first LM contribution in 1999. It seems more accurate to say she was part of the LM/Spiked network that grew out of the RCP and contributed to LM. Obviously it would be original research to correct what we've written so I'm not proposing that, but it would be good to find other RSs to check against the Economist. Relatedly, this looks like a potentially useful source. It's labelled as an opinion piece so would need attribution, but it is by a historian who has written about the RCP in a scholarly way. BobFromBrockley (talk) 16:49, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
RCP Membership
editThe non-paywalled citation (https://www.totalpolitics.com/articles/interview/london-calling-munira-mirza-interview) doesn't appear to suggest she was an actual member, just that she knew members of the Revolutionary COmmunist Party. Does the Economist article actually explicitly say she was a member? 80.0.6.154 (talk) 18:45, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
- It says
The head of the Policy Unit, Munira Mirza, is a former member of the Revolutionary Communist Party
so yes. SmartSE (talk) 20:53, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
Bias
editThe word “false” should be removed from the first paragraph to remove bias from the article. 80.0.114.242 (talk) 21:46, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
Swinger Parties
editAm I alone in finding the reference to Mirza's husband organising swinger parties in 2003 scurrilous and somewhat oblique to an article about Mirza herself? It appears calculated to imply that Mirza is in some way tainted by this. This is not substantiated and even if it were, would not typically merit inclusion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7F:318C:9600:3CEB:93C:9EC6:3CE9 (talk) 10:10, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
Resignation over the Savile slur
editIt should be pointed out that Munira Mirza is a long time 'Spiked' contributor, a website which has gone to enormous lengths to defend Jimmy Savile. Mirza didn't find the deluge of Savile support objectionable enough to quit her intimate involvement with Spiked...

How can it be asserted that Johnson's claim that Starmer was responsible is false? Starmer was in charge of the CPS at the time. The buck stops with him. 2A00:23C5:281C:2901:7538:7BC3:22BE:D083 (talk) 14:19, 4 February 2022 (UTC)

"False" claims
edit@Wereon: WP:NPOV means that we summarise the available sources on a topic, not that we take a neutral stance on article content. Mirza's resignation letter (quoted in the body of the article) made it abundantly clear that she considered the claim about Starmer to be false, and there are numerous other sources which back that up: [1] [2]. It is not up to you or me to judge that because Starmer was in charge of the CPS that there is some room for debating this here. SmartSE (talk) 16:58, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
