Correct Spelling of "Oblest"?

edit

The Russian word for "region" - область - is normally pronounced "oblest" as opposed to "oblast. As is true in English, there are many letters that are pronounced differently depending on the word used.

For example "что" is spelled like it should be pronounced "chtoa", but is actually pronounced as "што" (shtoa). [Ref: Русский? Легко! (Н. А. Метс, Н. А. Маркина) / Learn Russian? It's Quite Easy! (N. A. Mets, N. A. Markina) page 13, section 3 under "Memorize"] Even in the word "Russian" the "a" is pronounced as an "e".

As far as I know, it is common for translators to transliterate "область" as "oblest" to conform with the proper pronunciation of the word in Russian. (I don't have any hard references, but my wife has a Master's degree in both Russian and English and she is often called upon to translate stuff - and all the other Russian - English translators I know transliterate the word the same way.)

Picture of il-18

edit

This Il-18 photo is taken at Sheremietievo-1 not at Domodedovo. --71.160.169.76 04:30, 12 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

The IL-18 Picture Labelled as a Tu-114

edit

As noted, the photo of the static historic aircraft outside of the airport is indeed an IL-18, not a Tu-114. While the Tu-114 is exceedingly rare, the IL-18 is not only common, a number of them are still in revenue service, primarily as cargo aircraft. For comparitave purposes, this is what a Tu-114 looks like:

In this context I am going to re-caption the picture to correct the plane's identity.

Requested move

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

No consensus. The problem here is that we need independent sources. I can find 'Domodedovo International Airport', 'Domodedovo Airport' and 'Moscow Domodedovo Airport' used, some on the same page from their web site! So the points raised about the web site being unreliable for sourcing seem to be correct. Free free to nominate again once the common name can be determined, conformance with WP:NAME established and supported by reliable sources. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:45, 1 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Domodedovo International AirportMoscow Domodedovo Airport — This airport has, as far I know, never been called "Domodedovo International Airport" – the full name used in English is Moscow Domodedovo Airport. Please see the airport website and the other external links; most of the sources calling it "Domodedovo International Airport" are media organisation reporting the recent bombing which appear to have copied Wikipedia's mistake. The Celestial City (talk) 17:34, 24 January 2011 (UTC) The Celestial City (talk) 17:34, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Additional comments: after searching further, I see the name "Domodedovo International Airport" used in a logo on their site here; used on their site in the "About us", "Our history" section from 1997 through 2005 here; and used as recently as 2008 on their site in their "About us", "Our awards" section here; and the "Passenger's Info" section is currently using the name in their "Check-in" page. In all fairness, I found at least three other variants of the airport name used on other pages of their own site. But, there's clear evidence that the current name on the article is not sourced from original research; and that it has been used repeatedly by the airport itself, contrary to one of the comments in the nom, above. --- Barek (talk) - 00:48, 25 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Per WP:NAME, the official name is not always the best name for an article; frequently, consensus can support a common name that is found in multiple reliable sources. --- Barek (talk) - 15:41, 26 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Technical landings

edit

This section was added 25 September 2011, by User:95.188.209.218 and modified on 23 October 2011 by User:95.188.199.186. As nearly as I can tell, this refers to what the ICAO calls technical stops, which might also be called "refueling stops". The only other article in English Wikipedia with such a section is Ulan-Ude Airport.

This section lacks citations and I find no support for a Domodevo "technical landing" when using the airlines' websites. In addition, the entry for Afriqiyah Airways only lists one airport, not a departure airport and a destination. Was this supposed to reflect charter service instead of "technical landings"? If so, this section is not the correct location for this entry. --Chaswmsday (talk) 23:56, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Need sourcing? Yes. But tech stops should definitely not be in tables. HkCaGu (talk) 05:31, 10 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

"TransGlobal"

edit

Does anyone have any information on "TransGlobal" that would suggest it fly's to Domodedovo international Airport, as i can not find any information that would suggest this airline exists or flys to Domodedovo International Airport. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.210.235.63 (talk) 19:57, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ak Bars Aero ??

edit

It is still in the list for "Hub" in the infobox, but:

Due to financial difficulties, the airline filed for bankruptcy and suspended scheduled passenger services from 12 January 2015 and planned to lease its fleet of 15 CRJ200 aircraft to other airlines.[1][2][3]

In the much longer list of airlines from October 2015 Aero is missing? So I remove it and hope it is ok and someone just forgot this? Greetings Kilon22 (talk) 19:11, 27 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Can someone remove Beijing Capital Airlines as the airline will now operate from Sheremetyevo International Airport instead of this airport from 5 July 2017 as per http://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/272910/beijing-capital-airlines-revises-moscow-launch-to-july-2017/. 97.85.118.142 (talk) 06:19, 19 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Also Tianjin Airlines need to be removed as the airline will operate at Sheremetyevo International Airport as well. Source: http://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/272909/tianjin-airlines-revises-planned-moscow-operation-from-june-2017/. 97.85.118.142 (talk) 06:23, 19 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Add a new category about times it has been featured in popular culture. This airport was featured in MW2 as part of the controversal "No Russian" mission. Pancakes321 (talk) 01:20, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
